Found a 1997 185 with a trailer for sale locally. It is a 3.0 with only 25 hours. Guy is asking $5200.....

Looks to be in good shape. Is this a good deal? What should I look out for?

Thanks!

I had the 1995 version. Bought it 6 years ago for $6,000. It was in excellent shape with the 3.0L

3 years ago I bought my current boat. I did not have time to sell it myself so I traded it in to the dealer who gave me $4,000. Dealer put a price tag of $7,200 on it.

A far as the engine, how many people on board, use(tubing/skiing)?

May want to get a survey. I did not when I bought my current boat and it cost me $1,800 within 40 hours of use. I had to rebuild the lower unit. I got a 30 day warranty with the boat, 10 days after expiration the boat expired. Survey the engine and another survey for the boat. It might cost $1,000 but that still would have saved me $800. A new engine in a boat could be $5,000 or more.

Talking with experience.

Just thinking about the hours. 25, it has to be a new engine. Boats are meant to be used. Even low hours could be a problem. Not enough use means the engine was not kept lubricated. All the joints, seals, bellows cracking etc.

dosen't sound cheap to me. go on boattrader, boats.com, yachtworld or ebay to research this model/ year. I could be wrong as I haven't searched for this size boat. good luck and have a survey or at the LEAST a knowledgable mechanic inspect any boat you buy

I sent you a PM with a listing I saw on CL today 180 w/4.3 250 hours. Looks very nice. Good luck.
