Has anybody buffed out their isinglass windows?
I read a thread on this some time ago but, have came up empty handed using the search.

I have windows that are 3 years old and cannot get them clean. My boat sat on the hard for 6 weeks in the ramp parking lot (due to flooding conditions) this summer. After putting the boat back in water the windows were so spotted you could barely see through them. It looks like hard water spots but, nothing will touch them.
I have tried 2 or 3 different make plastic window cleaners with no luck.
If anybody has successfully buff theirs out, please let me know the products used and the method you used to do it.
I have searched u-tube for videos but have found very little DIY information.
Thanks in advance,
Bob

You can use a very mild rubbing compound/cleaner like Earth-Brite (i think that's the name)

I would suggest you do a google search for IMAR products. They're specifically made for cleaning eisenglass. There are several products from that company and they're not cheap but I have used them with good success and can vouch for them.

The usual disclaimers apply--I have no attachment or affiliation with the company other than having used their products and been happy with them.

I use "Buff Magic" and a 6" orbital polishing wheel with a cotton bonnet. Works good at low rpm. I polish mine every fall before i stow them for the winter. You can buy the product online or at West Marine if there's one near you.

Strataglass and O'Sea have a scratch resistant coating that will be damaged or removed with anything abrasive.

"Regalite" is uncoated O'Sea and "Crystal clear" is uncoated Strataglass.

That said, once your isenglass gets to a certain point, restoring some clarity may call for some of the products mentioned (desperate times call for desperate measures).

Isenglass will eventually shrink if left unsecured. Keep enclosures snapped in place when possible to prevent shrinking.

GFC,
I have searched the IMAR website and the only thing that I could come up with was a liquid cleaner. I think that I am past that stage and I need to take Bucit and Quint thoughts about mild buffing compound. wellswa I have some Buff Magic that I will try. What RPM do you buff at?
Joey, thanks for the link.

Not sure of the actual rpm I run. Just start out at about 1/3 of your dial reading on your buffer

Buff Magic? I'd think that was a bit too aggressive, no? Pro Polish I see as a good "cleaning" option.

Did their website have a phone number? I'd try giving them a call. They have a spray cleaner, a polish and a couple of other products.

They work.

Hello, if you need IMAR products you can buy them from us, we are the original manufacturer of the larger Sea Ray boats, but if you do not know what kind of glass is in your curtains I would not go buffing them, only because if it is Strataglass you will take the protective coating right off of them.... so if you need to order the Imar cleaner and polish we have both the Cleaner is $19.99 and the Polish is $18.99 and our phone number is 888-383-1179, hope that helps...

I don't have strataglass just some heavy clear plastic. Mine were milky and awful when I bought the boat and I took Meguires Plastex and a variable speed rotary buffer with a foam buffing head covered with a terry cloth bonnet and polished the plastic on a table covered with towels. They results were amazing. I thought I was in for replacing the plastic and it looked like new when done.

Your mileage may vary.
