Boatless
Yesterday, I washed the boat at the slip. That's not too bad of a job but when I woke up this morning I had more than my share of the normal aches and pains so I just chalk this up to old age. Anyways since the boat is nice and clean I decided today was the time to polish and wax the upper part of the 260DA from the rub rail up realizng full well that I may be in agony tomorrow as my body reminds me again that I am not young anymore. And the haul out to polish and wax the blue hull will becoming up shortly too. :smt009
I haven't decided what is the most fun but I think it's taking down all the canvas and doing the arch. That takes quite a bit of "body english" and stretching to reach everything. And then of course you have to put it all back together again when you are done. :smt119 Or maybe it's all the bending over to do the foredeck. Anyways my trusty Porter Cable Orbital was a big help and the job is finished. It's at times like this that I am actually glad I don't have anything bigger than my 260DA. I realy feel for all you "big boat" people who do this job by yourself. My back, shoulders, and arms are all hurting now and tomorrow I know I will probably be worse.:smt089

Ain't it great owning a boat? :wow:

You should go tubing with us and let my son drag you around... I hear it'll put the over 40 crowd in the urgent care facility the next day.

Dave..

I also feel like a truck ran me over when I work on my boat... Specially in the engine compartment!!!

Boating is fun!!!

Dave, I have a case of Advil I could mail in a care package with some Watkins rubbing body ach oil. Or if you like I could send you a violin. :))

Richard...........I have my own pain pills and my wife already gave me the violin serenade.

Gary.................uhhhhh.......no thanks. I don't mind inflicting pain on tubers but as far as having it inflicted, I gave that up a long time ago.

Jellyfish............I hear you. Working in the engine compartment can be fun too.

Actually, people should post here how many real injuries they have had on a boat that sent them to a hospital/urgent care. We switched health insurance this year and had to list out all the times anyone in our family has been to the doctor/hospital. I will say that ALL of my visits to the hospital have been boat related...

Impaled foot on engine room T-handle (twice... two years in a row but with the left and then the right foot)

Hit debris underwater and flipped jet ski and impaled right foot with a nail on the debris (in the top and out the bottom)

Son trips on bow rail as he tries to jump off and does a face plant on the dock and breaks nose

I won't get into the fishing accidents with big sharp hooks and fillet knives (you should never pull the knife towards you when filleting a fish)....

etc. etc... goes on and on...

Can we sue someone for these things hurting us? Surely we can....

Gee Dave, you're really talking me into the upgrade. That's the first thing I thought of is more waxing and washing.
Anyway, knock, knock, knock on wood, I haven't injured myself that I recall, other than the wax on wax off stiffness.
But Gary. You put a Nerf ball on the t-handle by now ....right?

The only injuries I have from the boat are, I keep burning my right index finger on the BBQ grill. I go to turn off the gas and I leave skin on the kettle. I've done it 3 times now. All summer long it looked like i'm pointing at things. "What are you point at?" "Nothing, I can't bend my burnt finger".

Ok, Dave were do you want me to send that Cheese to go with all that whining:lol::smt043:lol:.I felt the the same way a couple weeks ago, when I washed and waxed MS Judy after the TN River trip.

Oh........I have lots more things I could talk about. Most of the time it was really dumb stuff. Things like forgetting about the big "hole" at the bottom of the steps on the cabin door as I was descending while putting on the mooring cover.........one sprained ankle. :smt021 Or trying to come "quickly" up the stairs out of the cabin in my bare feet ..........one ripped big toe nail.:smt101 Or how about a dock cleat in the big toe while trying to walk the boat along the dock to tie it up........now that really hurt:smt089. Other miscellaneous things like banged heads, scraped fingers and legs just don't count anymore.:smt015
I also remember the time when my son had to go to the emergency room to have a fish hook removed from his back. Up to that point in time his casting wasn't too bad but that last cast..........well........... OUCH.:smt100

This thread will be like that seen from Jaws... "You think that scar is bad... look at this one"

I've done that toe nail thing... teaches you to keep your toe nails cut very short or risk peeling them off like a boiled egg shell...

It's kind of like sitting around an old folks home listening to everyone talk about their ailements.

Or the "I have bear claws for feet" section.

Wifey broke her toe labor day weekend...didn't step high enough on the cockpit step and that little piggy turned black and wanted to go home....I sacrificed some ice and gave her a lot of 12 oz pain meds....limping and boating don't work well.

I'm a Firefighter and I think I'm in shape. but i'd trade the Yoga and hours training for Marathons and triathlons for a sunny day, shirt off, cooler full and and Arturo Fuente 858 or maybe a Romeo while cleaning a beautifuly crafted elegant piece of motorized fiberglass any day of the week! All weird ice packs and heating pads aside. Aint lovin your breauty a fine fine thing????? LIFT WITH YOYR LEGS!! and enjoy

Really Dave, maybe it's time to trade that little 260 in for a 480 like Gary has. That way you'll really fit in with the old guy whinning club in the diesel section.

Gary you need to write a book, "How old guys on boats hurt themselves and live". Have a picture of your big stubed toe on the cover.

Gary,

Did you update your signature - One angry wife - or was that always there? Must be an update, since you lost your outboards... Is there a story there?

John

I don't remember but I'm sure there was at the time I put it there. I probably didn't have dinner cooked on time or something...
