Judge dismisses ticket because speed-limit sign was too small
After James Killian received a speeding ticket, he measured the signs in Spring Creek, Nev., and found that they were much smaller than state law requires.
"At 18 inches by 24 inches, the speed limit signs in Spring Creek are almost 300 square inches smaller than the 24-inch by 30-inch signs required," Elko Daily Free Press reports.
This led a local justice of the peace to dismiss the ticket that Killian received for going 39 mph in a 25 mph zone.
Officials say they'll replace the smaller signs, but that doesn't mean they're happy about it. “I don’t think you or I would have a problem reading that sign,” Otis Tipton, the county's roads supervisor, tells the paper.

I got to see what is required by my state and do a measurement next time I get a speeding ticket...

Same category of shortening yellow lights at the same time you install redlight cameras. . .

It's nice to have relatives who are police officers and a brother who is a prosecutor. Don't tell my wife, but I've been pulled over three time in the last month. Must be trying to make up some lost tax revenue or something. Only got written up for one, which was for doing 84 mph (actually was closer to 90, but I was slowing down). However, he wrote it for a broken tail light, which was a $50 fine and no points. :smt038 I can live with that.

Best regards,
Frank

Frank, just think the number of kids that will not be able to read a library book because of you actions.

Back in the mid 70's when I was in college I used to travel from NE Ohio to Princeton NJ to see a girlfriend. On I-80 thru PA they used to post their fines for speeding on signs...ie if the speed limit was 55mph & if they caught you doing 60mph it'd cost you $75, 65mph $85, 70mph $95 & so on.
Not sure what math or drugs I was using but 110mph seemed to me to be the best buy..........

I remember those signs! They were still there in the early 80s. I sent a lot of money to PA in those days, but the points didn't get back to NJ, so it was a pretty good deal.

Well lets see now, because he's getting off when he should be paying fines or because he's an idiot behind the steering wheel and might kill some.

When I read this, the first thing that jumped into my mind was... he's afraid of CO posioning from a portable gen set!?.

What a bunch of old ladies. There was hardly any traffic with the closest car a quarter mile ahead. Most everyone was doing about 80. I was driving a car designed in the 21st century with little costs spared to be a very high level sport touring sedan on an interstate designed for 1950 era cars to maintain a minimum of 70.

BTW, I'm not afraid of CO poisoning from a portable generator. I, as well as many people with good sense, don't recommend it just as I don't recommend that anyone else drive over the speed limit. Might be OK, but might not. Depends on how much knowledge, ability and skill the other guy has, and in general, I've found the masses lacking.
