We never use the generator. I run it periodically to keep it alive and not gummed-up. Total time on the generator in almost 5 years is 27 hours. The other day I was running the generator and the AC, noticed the occasional backfire. Took the covers off and pulled both NGK BPR43S plugs and found them fouled. I picked-up a pair of Champion RC12YC plugs and just wanted some club input about them. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Griff4

NGK BPR4ES is the normal plug. I also carry the hotter NGK BPR6ES in my spares bag but haven't needed them. Also, why don't you use it more in Florida?

My thought and suggestion is that you take back the Champions and get the correct NGK plug recommended by Kohler. These engines are very "finicky" and prefer what is recommended. It will probably cost you an extra $4 to go with the correct plugs.

Why not use the generator more often? I was told to run mine an hour under load every 3 weeks at a minimum. I try to run it like that. Also when anchored and hot I run it for 3 or 4 hours. Keeps cabin cool, dogs cool and batteries charged.

Thanks to all for the positive input. Tried the Champions and it sure runs fine now. Will Get the hotter NGK plugs next time. Original NGK 4's were dark and well sooted-up. I run the generator once a week for enough time to reach operating temperature. All the overnight places that we go to have shore power and the generator is really not needed. Our condo slip has a 20K lift plus shore power. We knew that a gen set questions would be asked when trade-in time comes around, and what the heck..we use the generator some times to make expresso on the boat! I checked the hour meter and it only has 23 hours on it. Have a fine Christmas and Holiday season! Griff4
