I have a Kohler 5e generator in my 340 sundancer. When i turn it on, it stay working for 5 min and then it turs off. Does anyone know the reason?

I had the same issues with our 5ECD gas Kohler generator.

We were getting codes OF and 62. The unit would run for 10 minutes with load and it would shut down with an error code OF. When we restarted the generator it would run under load for a couple of minutes and we would get error code 62. Code OF is over frequency shutdown. Code 62 is sea water pump pressure. So we changed the water pump impeller, fuel filter, and tuned up the engine. This fixed nothing. We were told by one mechanic we would have to get the generator rebuilt. The unit only had 768 hours on it!

Next we changed the voltage regulator and board. It stayed running for hours until I tested the CO sensor in the Salon. The sensor would not reset and we couldn't keep the generator running. We changed the sensor and relay. The generator has stayed running since. This took a couple of years to resolve.

Good luck! Kohler and Sea Ray documentation leaves a lot to be desired.

Ok, more familiar with the previous generations of the 5e.

I do know that the voltage reg and over temp are 2 things that for sure will shut down the genset shortly (5-10) minutes after start up.

Yes it can. With or without load it can shut it down due to over or under voltage and over or under 3600 rpm (3600 produces the 3 phase)

Ultimately is was my carb that caused the regulator to fail.

And ultimately, after disassembling the carb twice, once to clean and once to rebuild, I replaced the carb. I did save a 100$ converting the kohler part# to a Kawasaki # and buying the carb from a lawn mower dealer.
