Does anyone have a similar situation. The error code is LOC which is coolant system. Runs and shuts down after 5 seconds as designed to do because of this error message.

I changed the impeller, even though the old was fine. The strainer is clear of any obstructions. Now I can only assume its the feed line from the seacock to the strainer unit. But, if so, how do you clean it? It's in the water currently and I don't want to pull the boat out. Or, is there something else I should be checking?

Thanks

I had the same thing happen, got the LOC code. I replaced the impeller and had to find 3 of the vanes. Did you have an impeller that lost some vanes? If so they could be lodged in the hose going from the pump to the fuel cooler or to the heat exchanger. May not hurt to spend a little time to take them off and see if there is an obstruction. You could also try to back flush the hose going from the pump to the strainer. I highly doubt that it is clogged though. Just trace the flow and see. I was told that if it was the heat exchanger, it will be a good deal of work to clear the obstruction.
Also was the impeller installed correctly (Counter Clockwise rotation)?
Also see if you have water flow, if so it could be a bad water pressure sensor.

Just a few things to consider.

I was having a similar issue, my seacock had a stick clogged in it. Had to use a coat hangar to get it out.

Can you crank your generator while on plane ? I can crank mine at slow speed, then get on plane and it works fine. But if i try to crank while already on plane I get the LOC error.

Never tried while on plane.

I hope you don't have the same issue I had. Mine started off in the beginning of the season with LOC error code. Sea Ray replaced all the filters and impeller. Then it went to UU error code and then EC62. Sea Ray couldn't find the problem so Kohler came out and it needs a module P/N: GM48044. The part has been on backorder for 3 weeks and is due in the next of next week. I haven't had my genny all season.

Thanks all. If it is the seacock, how do you clean it with the boat in the water? Is there a way to use a compressor or something to blow the hose out?

If it's clogged after the seacock then you can remove the hose and use a coat hanger to clean it with seacock closed. I'm guessing you will need to get it out of the water if you suspect it's clogged before the seacock. I would try all other suggestions first though.

You could try to back flush it using fresh water. may dislodge something. Just be carefully with the water pressure that you use.

The valve is right there. I just exercised the valve a couple times and then closed it, yanked off the hose and then opened it back up. Then I used the coat hangar a couple times and the little sticks came out. Some water came in, but even if I couldn't close the valve, I can always stick the hose back on.

If you don't have anything that's blocking the pressure pushing the water in to the engine, you can flood the engine. :smt009 Be very carefull.

If I recall correctly, even the manual says that if the generator doesn't start with couple of tries you need to close the seacock and open it only when the generator starts. It'll be fine for several seconds without intake water supply. This is to prevent flooding the motor and damage it.

I had same ec62 code that was hard to identify the root cause. The generator would run, but only for a short time, i'm talking minutes. After keeping fuel lines away from hot items (used wood shims) I was able to determine it was a fuel issue as The generator now ran 4-5 minutes. The fuel was getting too hot and vaporizing too quickly at the injectors. The main cause was a "salt" clogged fuel cool module part GM54991. Cost is about $600. Internal fuel cooler module parts are not replaceable. To make a great repair, I also changed the fuel pump, all filters, plugs, (must be kohler plugs) and removed and soaked the heat exchanger in barnacle buster. Make sure you have a new thermostat (@$45) and (3) orings from kohler, (3) in case (1) gets damaged when reinstalling the heat exchanger (use
marine grease on the oring's at install hold them in place while installing bolts.)

This may have been mentioned, but I did not see it. There is a small plastic coupling that connects the impeller shaft to the crankshaft. Here is the Kohler part number-359448. If you have no water flow and your impeller looks good, I would bet this is the problem. It is simple to unbolt the housing that the impeller housing attaches to and you will find the quarter-sized orange/yellow part laying in the bottom of the housing. Without it in place, the impeller is not driven and does not turn hence the LOC code.
