The 5k Kohler generator in our 300 DA will start and run fine when the boat is cold. but just kicks and dies after the main engines have been run. Here's a typical scenario: I arrive at the boat after it has been sitting on the mooring overnight and the generator starts right up and runs fine with no problems. At this point I can stop the generator and re-start it with no problems ... then we go for a short ride and, when we get back, the generator will not stay running (it does fire up but immediately dies). I had a mechanic look at it, but that was before we knew that the problem only happened after running the engines. he got to the boat which was cold and was able to start the generator then he cleaned the carburetor jets. He hasn't called me back since I told him I still have a problem with the genset. Has anyone seen a similar problem? ... Any ideas?

Thanks,
-Charlie

Sounds like fuel... check the fuel line , perhaps it's collapsing as bilge temp heats up. Run it off of a remote tank like a portable gas tank for an outboard. A few fittings from Lowes and u will be set.

I would start there, after inspecting the fuel line back to boat tank to ensure its not collapsing. If that doesn't work make sure fuel pump is good by verifying fuel at carb. Sounds like something is expanding and contracting with the temp change of bilge.
