We ran aground awhile back and I have been slowly working my way through things and finally got around to the Kohler 7.3EC low CO generator. When we ran around the generator stopped due to sand intake I believe. Later I cleaned the strainer and restarted the generator, it ran fine and water flow seemed fine as well, but slowly the temperature was rising and went beyond the normal 198~205F range it operated at loaded. I just replaced the impeller, the old one looked fine with all blades intact. Upon staring the generator, the water flow was good, but the temperature continued to rise and went past 210F without any load. The coolant level is good, no leaks anywhere were observed.

My next guess is the heat exchanger, or syphon break. Not sure what to look for. If the heat exchanger were clogged it would slow the raw water flow I believe, and the syphon break would do the same.

Any help from you Kohler experts is greatly appreciated.

Happy 4th of July,

Mike

Before you do that, check the line from the thru hull to the strainer. After that take the hoses off from the pump to the ex changer and open the siphon break and back flush the ex changer. DO NOT FORCE WATER INTO THE EXHAUST PIPE! You will flood the engine.

Make sure the coolant is flowing, meaning it is not air locked. Ensure your thermostat is working correctly.
