We keep our S/R in dry dock at Lake Pleasant. Certainly concerning to be launching your boat and see the Maricopa Co dive and robotic rescue trailer next to the launch. In May there were 5 drownings and 1 other death due to leg being amputated by the prop on a boat. People drowning because they overestimate their swimming ability and of course you have to factor in alcohol. We went out Memorial Day for an afternoon cruise. Lots of newbie boaters out on the lake plus paddle boarders trying to be on the water with boats. Horrible that people are drowning over what's supposed to be a fun day in the water.

Usually I have a funny post. Not for this stuff. No words.
I do feel safer on my body of water. It’s big and you can see all boats at a distance, judge direction and course, gives time to correct and adjust.
I look at some pics and videos of inland lakes with all the boats crammed in and it just doesn’t look safe. 10# in a 5# yada yada.

I grew up in Peoria, so Pleasant use to be my lake. It's nothing like it use to be.
People drown where I live now because they underestimate how fast the current is, and how cold the water is.

Most people drown because they will not wear a life jacket in open water.

Lake Pleasant is the place where we boated when we had our Boston Whaler down there. Lots of places to tuck into and the shallow areas are fairly well marked. What's not marked are the idiots who think they can run 40-50mph and not pay attention to the buoys marking the shallow areas.
