My 2007 Sea Ray Sundancer 240 leaks all the oil in the engine so I put some in before each trip and the boat works fine. Obviously, I prefer to fix it. My mechanic says it is the gaskets that need to be replaced. Is this accurate? He also says he can do it without pulling the engine but it will take 5-6 hours. He is good at what he does but he does take advantage of my ignorance so I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Front and rear main seals leak and gaskets will not fix them. There are valve cover and dist shaft gaskets that can leak a lot of oil, those are fixed with gaskets.
Given the age of the boat my money is on a rusted oil pan

Has any work been done on the boat the last year or so? Have you been able to trace the leak? I had the heads redone several years ago and noticed a leak thereafter. Couldn't figure out where it was coming from for about two years. One day, thru shear luck I touched the outboard side of the valve cover and came up with a handful of oil. Ding, ding, ding -- bad valve cover gasket.

You need to figure out where the oil is leaking from. On my previous boat I had an oil leak at the oil pressure sender which was easy to fix. I also later had an oil leak at the oil filter adapter which was not as easy to fix. Run the engine and use a flashlight to look for oil leaks when its running. Once you figure out where it is leaking oil from you will know what to do next.
