Leaking transducer?

Had a major leak at launch this spring. Had marina pull boat and reseal. I wonder if the boat lift belts pushed on it and caused the seal to break?

Interesting, I didn't want to pull my boat because of the small size of the leak.

I'm wondering now if it could saturate my hull.

Yes, I had mine rebedded as well. It was leaking a VERY tiny bit and only when I was running the boat.

I have encountered a couple people (reliable sources) that told me some 280s (maybe other cruisers as well) had the transducer holes cut too big at the factory and in some cases, rather than patching/redrilling the hole they used extra 5200 to seal it then sent it on down the line. If your boat was one affected by this problem it will not be a fun or cheap repair. Fortunately for me, mine just needed to be removed and rebedded. The issue is that you will most likely destroy the old transducer sleeve taking it out. I had one left over from when I replaced my transducer because the new ducers come with a new sleeve. The seal holds great since my mechanic rebedded mine.

Jason, did anyone give you an explaination on why it leaked only at speed? I can buy a new hull insert for 40 bucks.

Seems to me ,that if it wasn't bedded correctly it would be leaking all the time

No one ever really explained it but my own personal theroy is that given the location of the transducer, I am thinking that when the boat was moving at speed, the force of the water pushed some through, somehow. In the end I had a friend drive the boat and looked down to watch the transducer when underway and I saw a slight drip coming from there which led me to the conclusion.

When I told my mechanic about it is when he told me about the possibility of the hole being cut too big or that it just needed to be rebedded. He worked at a Sea Ray dealer for about 10 years and had seen the problem before.

I am sure had I not fixed the problem when I did it probably would have become a constant leak at some point.
