I own a 1999 SeaRay Aft cabin and the Port side Trim tab line is leaking -you can see the Autotransmission fluid trail going down the transom bulkhead under the Aft Cabin bed (hatchway at the base of the bed). Any suggestions on repairs or parts?

Easy stuff first, positively identify exactly where the leak is. Is it leaking from the elbow that screws into the pipe nipple (coming through the transom)?

The soft line connections are all compression style and you can snug them up but do not overtighten them you can easily crack the plastic pieces or strip the threads

If it’s leaking from the tab actuator inlet you can get them from Bennett for pretty cheap but that’s an out of water repair.

Last, Bennett has great customer service so you can call them for guidance

I have a couple of Bennett upper hinges in my parts box left over from when I converted over to the indicator kit. You are welcome to one, if yours is cracked.

Usually, give the nipple going through the transom a 1/4 a turn and re-assemble and see if it stops the leak. They do loosen sometimes if there is any strain put on the inside pipe / fitting / hose.

Bennett CS has really gone down hill since the passing of Tom McGaw. Had to deal with one of CS reps a few months back and he never even addressed the problem I had with a flakey indicator. Just read from a script that had nothing to do with the indicator problem. Was more interested in upselling me new Sport Tabs.

That's a bummer...Tom was the best and helped me a couple of times

Sure was. Tom was the "Gold Standard" of customer service.

The best advice I can give you is tear out that hydraulic system and replace it with a Lenco electric actuator system. The cost is affordable. You get rid of that hydraulic headache and the Lenco's are responsive and work fantastic. They have a Bennett to Lenco kit that uses your current tabs. I have installed the Lenco kit on my last two boats. Cannot say enough great things about it.
