LEDs getting hot?

I have emailed the vendor requesting a refund.

I plan to buy 25 G4s from Marinebeam.com and end this " you get what you pay for" saga.

Be wary of cheap LEDs, I think they are a fire hazard (actually there have been boat fires attributed to cheap LEDs).

Could I suggest you buy a few first, and test them, make sure they achieve what you want

Hey Quint...thanks for starting this thread! I've been wanting to do the entire boat in LED, and I'm glad I got turned on to the MarineBeam website. They obviously know what they're talking about, and seem to offer an excellent product that won't fail in a way that you've experienced. This will become a valuable thread for anyone wanting to learn more about the proper LED upgrades.

The vendor of the cheap LEDs has refunded my money. I will not name them because they are concerned and investigating.

I have replaced all of my 12V bulbs with LEDs from the following vendors. Prices were in the $5-$15 range per bulb, depending on the bulb size/type. They all stay cool to the touch:

MarineBeam
SuperBrightLEDs
LEDlight
LEDwholesalers

I don't recommend any one of these four vendors over the other. They all seem to have good stuff.
Hmmm. So I double checked this on the boat yesterday. Turns out I have two LED bulbs that get scorching hot. They are the G4 I put in the two ceiling fixtures. THese two fixtures also share space with a 110V E14 bulb. Interestingly I also put the exact same G4 LED in the head ceiling fixture (its the only light in that fixture). It stays completely cool. Could there be something with these dual ceiling fixtures driving too much power to the bulb, or something like that?

I am going to do some swapping with some of my G4 tower LEDs I put in the swivel lamps to see if the heat stays with the LED or with the fixture.

Generally LED bulbs shouldn't get hot. However, I have also come across a situation where I have used a non-dimmable G4 LED bulbs in a dimmer setup. I tested two G4 bulbs and both got very hot to touch. One eventually flickered and went out. I thought it was just a temperature shut-off, buy seems it died even after it cooled down.
