I'll probably get flamed for this but, NOPE and NOPE! That is what river patrol is for. I've seen how they treat their own equipment and not going to allow that on MY boat. Not worth the risk or the damage that I would have to pay for.

No flame here. It was my first thought as well. Second would be liability coverage if something went south? I know my pleasurecraft policy has several limitations. Not sure about a situation like that. It would be different if saving a life was involved. That would be a no brainer for me and worth some risk.

If saving a life was involved I WILL help. But it will be me not them. I don't want them on my boat for any other reason than a safety inspection. Anybody else but the sheriff's is welcome. Those guys have ego's bigger than what is safely allowed on any boat. As for them boarding for inspection, they have to remove their shoes too.

If they damaged the vessel at all after commandeering it then the municipality that they work for accepted all liability for damages that incurred while being used by them. This is true wether you volunteered the item or not. You wouldn’t be out a dime. In fact you might even get paid for the down time of the boat during repair.

Do you not live in the US? This is basic civil liability 101. Been in law enforcement myself for over 20 years. If I were to commandeer anything in my official capacity I’m personally liable if my agency claims later they didn’t believe it to be justified. Either way you’d get paid.

Thats a negative Ghost Rider. The same liability laws are in effect there as everywhere else in the US. They may argue with you about wether or not they caused the damage if it isn’t obvious they did it but they are liable and you would get paid for it. Also don’t forget that if they didn’t have a just reason to seize your property then they violated your fourth amendment rights. Using your boat to stop a crime in progress and/or save a life is a just reason to commandeer your property without a warrant or court order. If they just want a joyride well you now own the county.

Because after my father was beat up and put in the hospital, I was the only one that was willing to quit my job in the Texas oil fields and move back to care for him. To stop the beatings and theft. And I stopped them. And I can't leave the state for another 4 years due to corruption in the DA and sheriffs office. And I hope karma catches up with every one of those worthless pricks in the harshest ways possible. It is corrupt. In a bad way. And letters and calls have gone unanswered. Same as when my son got his drivers permit. He didn't fill out the voter registration card because he was 15. And the state filed it for him as a democrat. That too is corruption. At 18 he files one. And he was asked why he was changing his party after the years of voting with the party he chose. So someone has been voting for him.

My father had to sue the VA to get any kind of help. Not the VA as a whole but the VA for the state. If he leaves, then he loses everything he fought for. And I can't leave him to fight the filth again.

I'm not a "COP hater". But I do see the ego and attitude the sheriffs offices have. And other than a safety inspection, they can keep their attitudes and rough handling off MY boat. City officers are different. Same with state troopers. They treat you and your property with respect.

Fixing this issue can't be done by one person. And I try where and as often as I can.

I commend you for your dedication to your family for quitting your job to help take care of them in their time of need. Are you alleging that the police were the ones who beat up your father or are you upset because the case was not solved and are claiming law enforcement is corrupt because they couldn't solve the issue? Why can't you leave the state for 4 years? Are you under house arrest? If not your constitutional rights are being violated and you should be contacting the FBI to investigate if that is the case.

The Dems sure do a lot lot of shady things all throughout the nation so that's not really something unique to Oregon. It seems like your son has grounds to sue the state for that injustice and he might want to contact an attorney.

The Department of Veteran Affairs is not a unique problem or even one under the control of the state so I'm not sure Oregon is to blame for that or if it would really be different anywhere else.

Fixing some of these issues requires people to start getting more involved with their local governments and to start holding politicians accountable for their corruption and incompetence. Law enforcement is all too often left to the whims of politicians and their nonsense. Looking at the news from the last year regarding Oregon there has been little if anything to encourage good officers to stay there with telling them anytime they need to use force to perform their duties they will prosecute and fire them and make them civilly liable for everything they do. How long should someone stand there and take violent abuse before they leave a toxic situation?

I suspect there is more going on with you than you would care to mention or should be in this forum and all I can do is offer my hope for you to find peace at some point.

Being a retired LEO I have seen countless people like you that made a mistake and then make a life of bashing police. That’s your right and one of the freedoms we have in this country.
