I have a friend that called me yesterday with a problem. He has a SR 400 that has dead batteries. They are located under the engine hatch and he say's there's no way to get the hatch up. I can't beleive SR didn't engineer around this situation. Does anybody know what the alturnative is to get the hatch open when the batteries are dead?

I don't know what the 400 specific layout is, but with mine there are two ways to over come this.

1.) My owner's pack came with a pigtail for the cigarette lighter (12v) outlet. You plug into the outlet and put another 12v battery on the pig tail topside and just operate the hatch. If he doesn't have one, it can be easily aquired at a boat store or even made up.

2.) My hatch has a small access hole which exposes the piston arm where it connects to the hatch. You pull the pin out and drop the piston arm. You can then manually lift the hatch, albeit requiring some strength.

Funny you should ask - for the longest time I wondered the same thing; I asked my tech, and he basically reported the same thing back to me as these guys on the thread did.

My cig-lighter/pigtail was in my owners manual package.

The 12 volt ligher trick should work. I had to do the to a 34' . I used my car battery and a long wire into the cigarette lighter. Worked just fine.
