For the Barnegat Bay Gang, I've noticed your preferred inlet is LEI over BI. Is it because of access to the inlet (Oyster Creek), or conditions in the inlet itself. Our group has planned a trip to Wildwood in a couple of weeks and we would certainly go outside conditions permitting. Especially since it will be low tide during our passage south of LE. would appreciate your experiences and thougts. Thanks, Mike

I like BI. I have been out it 20+ times and never had too much trouble. The chart plotter helps.

Mike:

I go either inlet....no real preference.

When I travel to Atlantic City from Barnegat Bay, I usually mix it up....down BI home LEI...or vice versa.

South of LEI, going ICW to Wildwood is just plain miserable......green heads, no wakes, bridges and TONS of idiots anchored/drifting in/accross the narrow channel.....

When are you headed south? I was trying to get a reservation in Schooner's for July 18-19, but they are booked......Christmas in July.

I actually like the inside from LEI to AC, kinda different, there are not any no wake zones that I remember (its been a few years, has this changed?), it's narrow and at low tide it leaves little margin for error, never done AC to Somers Point on the inside...That I'm told is horrible and should only be a last resort. South of there is LONG, no wakes, nice scenery, green heads, we would and have only done that if conditions forced us to.
In the past LEI was considered a no-go due to poor marking etc. Apparently it is different now? We are going to Schooners for most of July 4th week.

Thanks, Mike

I don't dislike the route and sceanary from LEI to AC....I don't even mind the narrow channels and skinny water.....it adds to the 'adventure'......it's the idiot fisherpeople anchored and drifting in those narrow channels that I can't stand.......It's not generally so bad if you are traveling mid week non holiday hours. Weekends and Holidays.....Fugetaboutit!!!!!

To answer your question, there are no official 'No Wake' zones between LEI and AC. Last year, there was a working barge on one of the small shoals.....you do need to come off plane for that if it is still there and workers are active.

Yes, it's marked well. You will still see the breakers off your port bow as you exit, especially at low tides with an easterly wind, but just stay inside the markers and you should be fine. Don't cut to early.....go out a good ways from shore.

Ron (rondds) posted some pics in this thread...stay away from post #819.....it'll get you hungry and you'll put on a few pounds....
