I have 1998 SR 400 Sundancer and the windlass is struggling to pull the anchor up due to slipping. I’ve replaced the spring in the tensioner but it’s slowly getting worse. It is a Progress 1, but there are about 4 different sizes. Where can I find the size stamped on my windlass

What's slipping?

The rope/chain or the winch itself?
The rope. At first, it just wouldn't pull the know through. The knot is good and tight, it just wouldn't go through the gypsy. I could reach into the compartment and give it a slight tug and it would go right through. Now, sometimes it will slip just randomly on the rope while pulling the anchor up. A slight push on the tensioner and it will pick up again. I looked at a Lofrans on another boat yesterday and the gypsy on mine definitely has wear.

Sometimes the rode gets stiff. You can wash it in a bucket with laundry soap and fabric softener which may help soften if up a bit

I played the gypsy game with the slipping etc for 2 seasons. Went all chain this year. No ore dealing with that p.i.t.a.

Yeah, I e done that. It will actually slip some even before it gets to the rode.

That's a tough one.

Mine slips every once in a while as well.

If it gets to bad I'm probably going to go all chain next time.

When I start my season I'm going to make sure there's some tension on the finger. Might even clock the spring just a little to see if the added tension helps.
