I don't like the bench seat in my 290 and was thinking about swapping it out for a Captain's chair. I'd really like something with a flip up bolster. I'd love to see some pics and/or ideas about doing this. I'm not above doing mods like pulling the bench platform out and having two Captain's chairs, but I think I'd rather leave it. One thought I had was I could punch a hole through the current seat platform and mount the pedestal to the floor and have some decent height adjustment. I'm leaning to just mounting it to the platform though with a short pedestal.
The bench seat is next to useless IMO unless you sitting at anchor. Even cruising around on a beautiful day you can't easily see through the windshields at the angle you're sitting. I find myself standing to the left of the wheel.
This will also help because I find my dog likes to sprawl out and sleep on the bench seat while I'm piloting and I can't sit down when I feel like it...

Looking at pics of 290s, the 300DA has essentially the same thing but as if the bench was split in half. So you can move one of the seats fore/aft and they have their own flip-up bolsters.

I never sit down and it gets in the way, so I took out the stbd side helm seat for now. It allows me to get out to the side deck from helm much easier.

I was looking at some 310 setups and I think they're like the 300. My seat is a split bench so I think this should be an easy mod to make it like the 310.

Do you have enough arch height to use a bolster? On my 97 330DA a stand up bolster would be useless because the height isn't there to stand for any length of time. I think that is why it was only on the 99.5 and 2000 340's (exact same hull as the pre 99.5 330s, and the 310's before that) when they raised the arch that they changed to a captains chair.

Plenty of room. I'm always standing. The arch is swept back and the bimini is the taller one with large windshields and curtains.

Ah ok, your setup is a little different than I imagined.

What is under the seats?

It would look awesome with two Captains chairs.

It's hard to tell from the pictures but do the top/back of those helm seats also serve as headrest for the people sitting in the aft-facing seat?

The rear facing stern seats have a back rest that's attached to the base for the helm seats. They're terribly designed IMO and not comfortable. The center rear facing backrest opens and allows for storage under the helm seat. The port side front seat has a cooler under the seat which is hinged. The whole front seat support for both port and starboard can be easily removed leaving only flat deck. In its place I could cleanly put two Captains seats. I'm just not sure if I want to do it for the port seat and if I want to lose the rear facing aft seat back rest.

Yeah, your layout is very similar to the 330s, but you do have a higher arch that is rear angled. The fiberglass seat base would have to be completely reworked at that side to put in a pedestal captains seat. And there may not be enough space to move the seat back far enough. But who knows. Here is what the 2000 340 layout is:

That's the idea. If I were only doing the helm seat I could simply router a hole in the fiber glass base or use a short/surface seat mount. Either way I might have to buy a seat and check the room/fit. I think it will work fine.
