Got the boat launched yesterday and everything well until I noticed my starboard engine temp rising a lot faster than my port engine. Reached 160 degrees in 50 degree water in just a few minutes when my port engine was still at maybe 110. Noticed the psi reading was only in the 2.0-3.0 range even at 3000 rpms. Port engine got up around 8 or so psi. Never heated up beyond 161-165 but didn't go WOT.

Sound like an impeller issue? My sensors should be accurate because they were both replaced last year after faulty alarms.

Seems like the impeller change on the 5.0's is a nightmare. Any thoughts?

It might be the impeller - easy job on the bravo III boats - I can do one in just over an hour start to finish - It probably is a restriction though - The hose that connects the drive to the bellhousing (outside the boat) is known for crimping/collapsing - the drives can also get a fair amount of build-up in the passages restricting flow - (don't know if this is an issue where you boat) - of course if your boat is equipped with seacocks/strainers this is not an issue

If you had a sensor failure - I don't see the engine heating up that fast. Impeller would be the easier fix. Would be a place to start. Was that engine reading low last year in regards to PSI? Your other engine at 3000 RPM's should be higher as well.

I would do impellers on both engines as long as your at it. Do you have inboards? sterndrives? a restriction after the pump causes high water pressure. If inboards check sea strainer or haul out and check water pickup have seen clams get in there and cause problems

I'm sorry see that you have bravo 3's just do impellers check for worn grooves or wobbly shaft in the brass body pump housing

I had a 2006 290 and the same engine over heated and actually caught on fire! Come to find out, they mounted the engine on the hose and it couldn't get any water. They had to take the engine out and replace the engine and hose so it wasn't smooshing the hose!

Good grief! I'm sure that's not the problem as everything was fine last year. I'll take it for a longer shake down cruise this saturday. If its still low then I'll just have both impellers swapped and report back.
