Mag 350 MPI won't reach full rpm

.1 hrs vs 1.4 hours In the upper rpm range.

is it possible that during the final testing before leaving the factory there was an issue with the drive and it was replaced?

Or maybe damaged during shipping and replaced?

it would be interesting to know the real story behind this.

Friend of mine did this a couple years back, couldn't find the correct ratio drive for replacement so bought something close. Didn't bother him much just advanced the throttle more on one drive. Then his girlfriend took possession on a sticky breakup and put it up for sale. He was laughin his ass off saying whoever buys it will never figure it out.

I’m guessing it was damaged and replaced with what was available. The gimbal bearing was replaced on that side and that driveshaft was a little rusty so I’m sure it was used. It’s a grand to have it regeared, I’ll be getting that done for sure.

That’s def a grand I would spend also. That’s money well spent imo

Pics of driveshaft showing the gear codes. The codes are in the service manual. Apparently not real common knowledge. My local mechanic didn’t even know about it. Even Marine Max that sold me the boat knew there was an rpm issue they couldn’t figure out even though they had the drives off for reg maintenance. I didn’t learn about the issue until a year later when I requested the service records.

Definitely gonna be more than a grand. Only place that would give me a firm price was $3500. Gear is on back order too.

I feel all your pain. I was ready to pull engine. But luckily found mismatched drive ratios same as you nut I need the 2:1.
