I took the boat in last week for new impellers and tune ups. Boy am I screwed! Motors are ten years old and probably (per mechanic who I trust and have used for 25+ years) never had impellers changed. They are an A1 MF to get to. Motors are low hours with dry joint manifolds. Had no reason to believe they would be suspect. (low hours, closed cooling, and no exterior signs of corrosion)
They had to pull manifolds to get at the raw water pumps to service. The manifolds and risers were horribly corroded and need replaced. The only explanation is reversion. I certainly wasn't planning on that expense but I have no choice.
I guess there is a silver lining though. He tells me nothing but pure luck saved the motors. For some reason there is no corrosion inside the heads or on the valves. They look as you would expect a 100 hour motor to look! Compression above 250 on all 16 cylinders.
I'm going to put 2" spacers under the elbows (the 4" won't fit under the hatch) and reversion kits in the exhaust hoses and hope it won't repeat itself.
Anyway, the sole purpose of this diatribe wasn't just to vent about my $6K tuneup! If anyone with closed cooling and dry joint manifolds are happy about your corrosion free exterior appearance, a peek inside may be worth a little peace of mind!

PS Now I'm gonna miss Gasparilla too. That sucks!

Don't worry, with the temps in the low 70's I doubt there will be much flesh being shown. After 14+ years of going by boat I've had my share of Gasparilla but since my daughter was born I haven't been since. Good luck with your repairs! Where do you normally boat?

They are a normal component for maintenance (read: replacement). Typically in a saltwater boat they are +/- 5 years.
I just replaced mine last spring and upgraded to the dry joint style. I apologize for the sniffles in the video.

So far it seems to run slightly quieter, but that may be perception.
...and spend the time to clean your bilge when you're in there.

Hey Bucit,

I wondered if there was anyone around here on the forum. I keep the boat at Maximo and live right around the corner from there. I usually hang around egmont, tierra verde, passagrill, john's pass areas. What about you? Let's grab a cold one sometime!

Todd,
Not to get off subject but in that 2nd video you mentioned the Bennett trim tab reservoir just popped out for cleaning, mine's driving crazy trying to get under it for cleaning. How do you remove it?

It just slides up out of the base bracket.

I live in NE St Pete and keep the boat on a lift behind the house. We go to Egmont a few times a year but gas is a killer for a day trip. I use to boat to Shell Island for 12+ years until they shut it down. Great place to party! We usually day boat to our local sandbar near Weedon Island or to Tampa's Beer Can Island. We also head south a few times a year and stay the weekend in Sarasota or farther south. I'll PM you my info.

Lee,

Let me know if you got my PM. I lost my sponsorship (today?) and just re-upped so not sure if it went through or not.
