Does anyone’s insurance request the marinas insurance where you dock?
At our marina there is several boats that are not sea worthy, not moved in a few years. They
Are dirty spider traps if you are next to them.

we are thinking to ask for their policy since they want ours. Any thoughts on this?

Yes, both of the marinas do require to be added to my marine insurance policy.

I have no issue with it but don’t expect it to weed out the slip queens and spider collectors. It didn’t help one bit

So the marina policy insures their structure and any liability caused by their negligence (i.e.; slips and falls). They aren't going to be insuring the boats so their policy would be worthless to you. Most marina's I have dealt with want a copy of the boater's policy to ensure coverage exists in the event of sinking and the like. I would hope those derelict boats have insurance, but probably not.

Every marina I have ever been at has the same policy, no insurance, no slip. They even ask for updated policies when the one on file has expired.

It is common practice to add the marina to your policy as additionally insured.

Have you formally complained? If not, you should. Encourage your boat neighbors to do the same...

I'm glad to say the last few years the marina in Chattanooga, where I've been located for years, have really cleaned up the place with respect to abandoned looking boats.

I bet there's a lengthy process they have to go through just like owners of rental property to get any one evicted. Now that I say that .... there has been an uptick of abandon boats that are sitting on the bottom of the TN river here lately. :(

We have a fair amount of abandoned boats. 5 on my pier. The owners wants to haul and crush, but he told me its a complex and lengthy process to go thru so that he doesn’t get sued down the line. He cant even move them out of the slip and put on land to free up money making slips.

We have all complained , the owner has one himself

I thought he was asking "Does GEICO (in my case) require a copy of my marinas insurance?"

Yes, ever marina I have slipped at (not transient) has asked for a copy of my insurance with their name added to it.

A few years ago I was looking around at Marinas. Talked to one on the phone, they had a decent slip. They required I submit photos of the dock for approval before they would finalize anything.
