We may be moving to the Detroit Area and need to find a marina either on Lake St Clair or along the Deroit River. Would like to find a marina that is friendly and that allows pets and doesn't mind if you stay on board for the weekend.:smt100

I would look seriously at Algonac harbor Club. Most people stay aboard over the weekend. They have a nice pool and restaurant and the water on the St Claire is amazing. You are a short hop, skip and jump to Detroit or Windsor. Also seems safe.

Good Luck,

Dan

Algonac Harbor Club is nice... stayed there as a transient one weekend and enjoyed it. Though it can be difficult to maneuver around some of the slips--pretty tight marina. Another suggestion is Mac Ray's, which is on Anchor Bay. Very nice facilities and "Sea Ray Central" at that marina.

I have been at MacRay Harbor for 6 Seasons and will be there again this year. you will not find a better place on the Lake (Algonac Harbor is a close second!!, Belle Maer is third)

There are many advantages to MacRay…

Pool, Restaurant, Parking in front of your well, floating docks (water was a little low last fall), Gas dock (MacRay members get a discount on fuel prices)…

And location! there is shallow water out in front of the marina that has a relatively sandy bottom that quickly warms up in the spring. On those days in which you do not want to travel across the lake (gas $$$) you can put out in front of the marina for a swim!

Pets are also welcome. The marina has posted “doggie” bags for dog pick up along the sidewalks (you know what they are fore). We walk our dog every morning to the gas dock for coffee (free to members as well)

Also, there are also numerous themed parties / Concerts under the stars / Aquapalooza and an awesome 4th of July Fireworks show that the marina puts on for it members.

You should check out the website and or give them a call for more information, or look me up.

I have been at MacRay for the past 3 seasons. It's a great marina. I would say it's definitely on the expensive side (not that I am complaining, I find it worthwhile). Algonac Harbour Club is great too. I winter store there. But, the marina is located in a less populated area of the lake. Many of the other marinas are located near larger population centers where you are more likely to live. Additionally, the marina is located on a channel. So you will need to motor quite a distance (>10 miles) to get to any popular destinations. A couple of other suggestions might be Island Cove (floating docks) and Beacon Cove (fixed docks).

Are you guys at Mac Rays going to have enough water this year to get in and out? that would be my biggest concern.

Dan

As for water... For a 33-37 foot Sea Ray, no problem. A 40 Motor Yacht, maybe... MacRay did dredge some of the channel last year.

There are quite a few big dog boats in the marina, if there are issues I am sure the marina will address them.

Another thumbs up for Mac Ray Harbor. Join the MacRay Yacht Club. Lots of friendly folks who take trips and socialize together.

We stayed at both marina's last summer as transients. You have options as they are both great facilities.

We've been to MacRay 3 times in the past 5 years and consistently have had great visits there. The staff is friendly, the facility is huge. The only downside that I could think of is that it could use some more green spaces. With all of the docks being drive up and park at your boat style, it can get to be a hot asphalt jungle during those hot summer months. This is more than made up for with their beautiful pool. Many people personalize their space with picnic tables, grilles etc. and some even run around in golf carts. Overall a great campus type feel when you are there. As others have said, the area just outside of the marina is just amazing with it's shallow clear water and soft bottom. The party literally moves outside the marina on a nice day.

Algonac Harbor Club was to us a slightly different experience, equally enjoyable. It's a gorgeous setting but a smaller overall facility. The staff was also very friendly. The owner was on site just to hang out. The only real negative that we experienced while there was that the mosquitoes are carnivorous. Located next to a sizeable marsh type area, we were literally chased to our boats (or the onsite bar) once it got dark. There was just no way to sit out and relax. Bug spray had little effect.

I believe that there are CSR members (Rollercoastr - MacRay and Jaws - Algonac) that can offer more.

You won't be disappointed boating in that area. It's an amazing summer playground. With this summers lake levels though, best be on your game.

Definitely check out Belle Maer Harbor. I think the best value for the money. They lowered the prices this year to make it even more attractive. Pretty much the same amenities as MacRay but has shade trees and grass area in front of every slip. Location is the best part, close to every popular hangout.

Ok, I know I asked before but I have a question about another marina. We were in Mi for Easter weekend and did check out some marinas. Has anyone stayed at Toledo Beach Marina in LaSalle, Mi. They are owned by the same people who own Jefferson Beach Marina and they are having an open house next week and my husband is going to check it out. Any input will be welcome.

All of the above choices would be great. There are also the marinas in St. Clair Shores to consider. We're about to start our sixth season at Algonac Harbour Club and have been well treated. The owner (Mr. Pete Beauregard Sr.) has recently spent a fair amount of cash because of the lower water levels i.e. dredging the fairways and lowering the fixed docks. We're on the "codo side" although we rent and usually do not see the mosquitos over there. The Beauregard family also runs Colony Marine, one of the oldest Sea Ray dealerships.

I'm trying to think of any negatives but really can't aside from the fact that the restaurant keeps trying out new managers. The place is friendly; they have social activities; and water depth shouldn't be too much of a problem. I suppose the commute to the marina may be an issue depending where you will live but we travel 2h 40m to get there so we don't consider it to be a problem.

If you need further information let me know.

James

If hes in the area anyways tell you hubby to get off I75 at Laplaisance rd exit and go east.Trouts marina is nice ,we kept our 40 silverton at the blue private docks across from the first split in the road across from the quaint little restraunt (owned by a chef) and the round shaped bar/restraunt.The docks dont have a name but the price was nice and so was the private entrance(card key) and it wasnt too loud. The harbor master from millers marina at put in bay keeps his boat there also and commutes to work on his boat,i think a guy that owns a helicopter flight training school and sales bussiness still keeps his boat there also.Short ride to toledo lighthouse ,maumee river has free day dockage and about 20 restraunts ,free concerts etc. I think toledo beach is ok but not been there since it changed hands, may be a good option for storage if staying in trout creek area.If you want closer to detroit check out humbug and gibraltar yacht basin.None of these are on par with algonac but are nice friendly marinas with amenities .
