I have no issue with the President of the US meeting the fallen troops in the middle of the night. In fact, I'd almost expect it, he is the Commander in Chief. These soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, and for that, I and I'm sure everyone else on this forum are extremely appreciative of. I'm also very aware of the sacrifices the rest of our armed forces make for us (our tiny state of 600,000 is sending 1300 soldiers for training this week (the largest group of soldiers to be deployed since WW2) of which my nephew is one of them for later deployment to Afghanistan) by putting themselves in harms way.

I just think it was inappropriate for the news media to be there. I have no issue with them reporting it.

Was this staged for political reasons?

Was it done to help persuade Americans that we don't need to add more soldiers in Afghanistan as the General requested?

I was thinking the same thing. Great that he was there, but did not have the media along.

Personally, I think he will send the troops as requested but is waiting till after the elections next week.

I've seen this mentioned a few times - It's certainly possible. It looks like Virginia will be electing a Republican if the poll results can be trusted at all. Not sure about NJ - we can only cross our fingers! I hope the Dems lose both - maybe it will send the message that their level of 'change' wont be tolerated. Next November is gonna be fun
