Just had my transom assembly replaced on my 85 amberjack 255 with an 03 350 mag MPI engine.
I was doing some work in the engine compartment and my arm touched the controller and i had to jump because it was hot. The motor hasnt run all day and the boat is out of the water and was kinda shockedf that i felt something hot.
After doing a bit of research, I see the mercathode is supposed to be working and drawing current even if the battery switches are off since the hot wire runs straight off the battery positive terminal with an inline fuse.
But should it be hot to the touch?? especially when its not even in the water??
Its hot at one end mainly (where the red - hot wire and the orange wire connect).
At 1st i thought the mechanic wired it wrong but after looking at the manual, it looks to be wired correctly at the controller.
Anyone else ever notice the controller being hot to the touch??
If not, any suggestions what to check?
Thanks
