Trying to replace the spark plugs on my 98 Sea Ray w/3.0 merc.I dont know if it is the LX version or not.My serial # on the air cleaner is 0L047085. Can any one help me with this?

From what I know, a 3.0 merc is a 3.0 merc....why would you need to know if it is an LX or not?

Do you need to know a "How-To" change the spark plugs, or the type of plugs to purchase, or...?

The boat place Im getting the plugs from said the plugs are different between the 3.0 and 3.0lx.It got a different head.I see no markings on this motor identifying it as either one.Only found the serial number.I know how to change plugs..lmao.

The plugs in it now are AC Delco R42LTS

I guess I am not sure why this is an issue. Is your marina telling you that the plugs you have now should not be in either motor?

If you were not having any performance issues with your current plugs, I would get the same ones. Or cross reference to a different brand if you happen to not like AC Delco.

In my case, I would ask them which plug is more expensive. Chances are that is the plug I need.:smt001

The 3.0 L an LX have 2 different head designs....the smaller port lx head uses a 3/4" reach plug, the l uses regular 1/2" reach.

Your engine serial number 0L047085 is considered a 1998 MERCRUISER (With P.S.) & EST ignition system, 3.0L ALPHA model number 4111025LS.

Your original mercruiser spark plug part number for your engine is going to be 816336 but has now Superseded 816336Q other wise known as (NGK BPR6EFS).

Here are your engine parts.

You may need service manual #26 GM 4 CYL 181 CID, Merc part number 90-8613291.

I ran into the same problem with my '98, seems there is a difference in plugs dependent on the year/ser #. I made it easy on myself and took an existing plug and had the local auto parts store cross reference it I was then able to decide which brand plug I wanted to use and typically they are cheaper at an auto parts store than the marina. Just my $.02
