Now that's a picture that shows a 1000 words! Holy Smoke, those things are HUGE. No wonder they weigh almost 1300 lbs.

Just did the math. Over a ton more weight on the transom. I wonder if they had to beef up the transom and brackets to support both the weight and power differences?
 
Bad idea. The whole reason everyone hates ios is because the turning mechanism is essentially underwater causing a lot of unneeded parts and maintenance. The biggest advantage of an outdrive is the fixed driveshaft especially underwater. I now realize this after buying a boat with twin ios. This seems to be going back to a design requiring more maintenance. But looking at the size of those things I guess they had no choice. And I disagree that turning the entire outdrive is bad. It's above water and easily powered by hydraulics.
