I have it. There is a really good Facebook forum dedicated to it and moderated by a Merc employee.
If you have smartcraft gauges, you will not really get any additional info, but it is much easier to read. If you do not have smartcraft display in your gauges, it will provide plenty of useful information such as hours, real rpm, gps speed, voltage, oil pressure, water pressure, etc., based on what your specific engine has available. It also has a performance trend package that will clearly show you the sweet spot for gph/ mpg. Only you will know if that is worth the $200 price. Install is super easy. Plug and play for many.

I have it and use it regularly. Getting the error codes on your phone, the data, etc, is great. It is now supported on the iPad as well, and splitview is supported as well, but I typically use the phone for engine data, and the iPad for navigation... below is my last error code... simple fuel pump relay, back on the road in 10 minutes...

how hard is it to hookup. where do you connect the blue tooth module ti the engines

On mine, I opened up the top dash panel, and there was a six plug Smartcraft port, at least one port had a dust cover plugged into it. I believe all I did was remove the dust cover and plug it in, but the unit might have needed power as well... cranked the engines, opened the app, and scanned for engines, it popped up and boom, data on my phone. To find the port, back track from your smartcraft device(s), I have an SC5000, so I just followed the harnesses.

And if you don’t have any open ports, you can buy a 4 or six port hub, less than 100$, if I recall...

Same here. 6 port junction behind dash. Remove dust cover, plug in VVM, turn on key and connect phone via Bluetooth. Simple.

Thanks everyone. I don’t have any smartcraft devices so this sounds like my next investment.

Can’t wait to install mine this year. 01 horizons are smart craft ready without any gauges, so it will be nice to see the additional data those engines have been hiding

I purchased the VesselView Mobile App and paired it to my Ipad 4. Nice readouts. Thanks everyone for installation instructions. Found the connection under my dash. Connected the VesselView module and it was pair with my Ipad and plug and play. Great for $251 hopefully it will allow some fuel management.

Hey Ralph, I just stumbled upon this post and wanted to share my experience with the Mercury Vesselview mobile app. I've been using it for a while and it's been great for keeping an eye on my engine performance and fuel usage. As for connecting it to your 2008 Merc Cruiser 5.0 engines, I'm not sure about the compatibility with that specific model, but the app should have a list of supported engines. If it's not listed, you may need to install additional hardware for compatibility. Hope that helps! By the way, have you heard of Automatic Document Scanning and OCR? It's a cool technology for scanning and digitizing paper documents. You can check it out at https://smartengines.com/. Let's bring this thread back to life.

Its decent enough, but IMO no substitute for showing the parameters on the MFD.

Can i ask a question?

Love it. First find the port that you will be plugging into and see if it has a yellow termination cap or just a purple cover. If it has a purple cover you need to get a yellow resistor cap. Plug one end into the port on the engine , should be back by distributor. Plug the yellow resistor cap on the other lead and down load the app.
When boat is running you tap on the rpm and it will slide over to another screen you can customize and see all available information and set up custom screens. I love mine. My boat runs at 162 degrees and my gauge on dash says 175.

If you have no smart craft gauges it will plug in near the engine and not under the dash
