Mid-90's 270 Sundancer Thread

Boat has been delivered and Marinemax in Destin Fl is going thur it with a 200 hour inspection and I am sure the flappers will be on the list.

I get the boat next week and looking forward to getting her in the water.

Good luck, MM

Saw the boat today. There is no ghost of any former stripes along the sides.

The stripes you see in the picture appear to be origional or if not were replaced a long time ago.

The palm trees I believe were an add on as I have seen this image available on other web sides for lettering for boats.

Just took delivery of my 97 270. Hope to get it splashed next weekend. Does anyone have any advice on running wiring from the bilge up the port side to the stereo?

Congratulations! Post pics. If you need help on posting pics let me know. The wire run is in the bilge, just follow the wires.

Hello, quick question is the (1995) 270 DA with twins such a rarity? I cant find anythin on the net about it.

Thanks in advance for the help!

There are a couple of that model if not that year here. See the history in the first post of this thread. What do you want to know?

Trying to get the specs on engines, drives etc pics of the engine bay etc.

Thanks

Are you wanting to run amp wires? You pull aft matress out.Unscew boxed chase under mirror.poke hole thru silicone into bilge.Run new wires and re silicone around wires and put aft cabin back together .I ran amp wires and wires for subs just like that.I was wanting to know if anybody has mounted additional speakers in cockpit besides factory 2.I have a spot to mount a 3rd under shifter, but I'd like to mount 4. just not sure where. My subs are in boxes under stern bench.

I have noted that the bottom step before going below deck seems to hold water and the small carpet is always wet.

I assume there must be some drain for this that must be plugged with leaves or something.

It looks like it runs to the starboard side but out of my sight.

Any ideas on the best way to clean this out?

Thanks!

Does anybody know a particular location of a string that addresses shore power, battery power, inside shore power breaker box, outside instrument rocker panel switches and the battery panel switches of 1, 2 Both and OFf and how these all actually work together, which ones work off battery only, which work off of shore power only and which work off of both?

I have read over 200 pages of Sea Ray 270 manuals, and string sights and frankly I am frustrated at the lack of specific information in these manuals on how to start and run the boat and use the equipment properly.

I blast mine with a hose each time I wash the cockpit. Yes, it goes out the starboard side.

Does anybody know a particular location of a string that addresses shore power, Only powers the items in your breaker panel in the cabin. One of those items will be your AC (NOT AIR CONDITIONING as some here have thought) charger which will charge your batteries when plugged in to shore power or a generator. battery power, Except for items with breakers in the cabin panel including outlets and half of the light over the galley, everthing else is 12v and is powered by your batteries. inside shore power breaker box, outside instrument rocker panel switches and the battery panel switches of 1, 2 Both and OFf and how these all actually work together, which ones work off battery only, which work off of shore power only and which work off of both? Your two batteries are not separated, you just have the option of using one at a time or both, your choice. I alternate between the primary and reserve battery each trip so as to spread the use.

See above in RED. Mine is a 1997, there could be differences. One thing I had to wrap my mind around is the fact these are not mass produced like cars by the millions. They are basically hand built one at a time. Let me know if this does not make sense.

OK, so prtty much everything outside in the rocker panel switches runs off the batteries, and the shore power charges the batteries.

Therefore, when I cannot get my spot light to move its because (hopefully) that there is not enough power in the batteries to move them.

I am away from the boat for a while and it is plugged into shore power. When I return, I will see what works and what does not.

Right now I am leaning toward buying all new batteries and starting out fresh. Looks like Optima M31 is the best priced battery around and considering I need 4 of them, probably what I will get.

Can I assume if I do this that I can alternate starting and accessory use by just going out one day using bank 1 as starting and bank 2 as accessory and then switching the next time to 2 starting and 1 accessory?

Thanks for your help.

Anybody with twins had to replace an engine yet? Really just want to commiserate:smt089. I'm in deep now. $6500 and counting. At least the port engine is in great shape. Still, I'm having a hard time swallowing this one.

Yep.... I repowered this past year. I bought 2 reman'd 4.3's and had a good friend who has a part time marine business install them. The engines were ~$2600 each and included flywheel and starter. I then replaced- couplers, alternators, oil pressure sensor and switch, gimble bearings, boots and exhaust flappers. The exhaust manifolds and risers are new as are the exhaust couplers. Both carbs had already been replaced with Edelbrock 1409's. I'm extremely pleased with the whole ordeal - about $10k into it but they run perfectly. They are advertised as having 230hp from the 190hp - not completely sure what they do beyond work the heads and valves a bit. I know the boat gets on plane with the drives down, tabs down and with 4 people on board in about 7 secs and ~18mph. The only downside is I was planning to work on cosmetics this past winter - cockpit and cabin upholstery work and that was delayed until the boat fund gets another deposit!

Are you at $6500 for just the stbd engine? Was it a complete crate engine? That seems really high!
