I have my 185 2004 Sport wet slipped. It is in a covered slip but would like to add a cover. I have gotten price quotes from custom installers and max marine for snap on covers but was also wondering if anyone has used a mooring cover in the water with cleat access. I can back the boat in so I have access to ratchet the cover down. Is it just too hard to do this in the water? I was thinking a semi-custom cover is cheaper and covers more of the boat without having to install snaps in the hull. Anyone with previous experience? Any advice appreciated.

We use a mooring cover on ours. Much faster than the snaps, and keeps dirt and stuff off better than the snaps. We have our 240 Sun Deck backed in, and on a hydrohoist. Once the boat is on the lift the ropes have enough slack to go under the cover and back up to the poles supporting the roof. I still us the snap cover for trailering. We got our cover as a custom fit from Overtons. It has a draw string, to secure it, but not a cam wench to really tighten it. We use sandbags clipped to the cover to hold it tight in cad for wind/snow/rain. Just clip them on where the trailer tie down straps are. takes about 5 minutes to roll on/roll off the cover.

I use the Sea Ray mooring cover with cleat access and the ratchet system at my dock. It really isn't that hard as long as you can access the ratchet. It takes a bit of practice but once you get the hang of it you can get it on in under 10 minutes. Taking it off takes me less than 2 minutes. I have both a snap and mooring cover. The mooring cover definitely keeps the boat cleaner and offers much more protection however I will say the snap cover is easier to get on. I use my mooring cover when I leave my lake house. I'm there just about every weekend so during the week when I'm not there it is fully protected. When I arrive I pull the mooring cover off for the whole time I am up there. So while I am there I use the snap cover and when I leave I put the mooring back on. The snap cover is great to pop on at night quickly especially if you have had a couple beers! Hope this helped!
