I'm replacing the seats, pedestals, and pedestal plates on my Sea Ray sedan bridge. couldn't unscrew the old pedestal plates, so I snapped them off with an impact wrench, sawed the remaining studs flush with the bridge. Now I need to mount the new pedestal plates.

Does anyoine have any experience with this? I was thinking to use heavy ss wood screws with plenty of 3m polyurethane.

Thanks,

Bob

I just installed new helm chairs on my bridge boat. The new mounting plates were smaller than the old (which surprised me given the old and new were from the same manufacturer). I could get all of the screws out, but the plate was still afixed hard to the floor - don't know what the adhesive was. The screws were heavy duy, stainless steel and extremely long. They were also in so tight that it maintained an absoluted seal. The silcone seal in the bottom of the screw hole was still fresh and wet (i.e., uncured). I'd assume it had been sitting there since the boat was built nine or so years ago.

I was concerned about what I would be drilling into to mount the new plate if I pried off the old. I ended up up deciding to mount the new plate on top of the old. It is very solid.

Good luck,
Paul

Thanks Paul.

Were the screws you removed machine screws or wood screws? Mine were machine screws which suggest that there is something either imbedded in the bridge floor, or there is something underneath that is hidden by the head liner in the salon.

Mines bolted with nuts fastened underneath, accessible behind the ceiling panel in the mid berth.
