my 2006 240 sundancer has the batteries on port side, the same side the waterheater sits and the same side my 115-230 volt converter for shore power also. having only a porta potti so no holding tank on the other side it results my boat sits about an inch lower port side with nobody on board. i planned to move the batterier to stb , but looking closer at the installation it might develop into a bigger work where i have to opene some cable tunnels and relocate the main battery cables.

has anbody done it and can report how much of work it was ? any other ideas ( but i hate to put dead weight into the boat just for balancing.. )

i,m a little bit angry searay installed anything on one side only , i also checked every space i could find to check for trapped water, but as far i did not find anything.

thanks for any inputs, thoughts etc.

I'm very surprised, as I assumed the placed in such way that boat is balanced. My model is 2004 and similar position of the equipment you mention and seems to be balanced.
The weight of the batteries is between 20/25 kg a piece.

Before you move the batteries, just add 80 kg (jerrycans with water) and see what it will do with the level of the boat. Or only disconnect your batteries and move to SB. If you decide to move your batteries, just extent the present cables (2 cables), will be max. 2.5 meters. Normal, the longer the cables you must increase diameter of the cable, but think is for 2.5 meters not a big issue.

robert, do you have vacuflush with the holding tank ? do you have the 115-230 volt converter for european shore power ?

i thought about disconnecting and putting the batteries the other side, correct.

No, vacuflush/holdingtank.. Still have to check my engine compartment in detail, but expect for my heater is connected with transformer (230 -> 115). My fridge only works on 12 volt. I have on SB my charger (converter) for my batteries, but isn't adding lot of weight. I have inverter for 12 -> 230 :) But all isn't adding a lot of additional weight.

I plan to add addition battery capacity and have 2 x 110Ah installed on SB, but will check first what will do with balance of the boat.

you have the batteries port or stb ? i believe on the pre 2006 240 there were stb and then were moved to port ?

regarding shore power : on my boat everything on AC is still 115 volts ( microwave, battery chargers , water heater ) . they simply put a converter 230-115 volts so the european 230 volts go into the converter which transforms down to 115 and on the outlet all ac consumers are then fed. i think usa boats does not have it because the 115 volts can directly feed the consumers.

thanks for your input !

My batteries are on PS, which is original place, as same mentioned in Owners Manual. My boat was imported from the US (in 2007), but has only heater 115 volt, so expect transformer (230 - 115) is only used for heater. No microwave, but battery charger (converter) is for 230 volt. On my main panel, the voltage meter is replaced and can handle 230 Volt. Same for the powersockets, all replace to 230 volt and 'European mainland' plug....

i removed my batteries and tested storing them stb. to my stunning the boat then listed stb significantly , so moving them is not an option and there is a reason they are mounted to port ! i have two 100ah agm,s and they are heavy as hell ! i slightly will counterballast now to put the boat fully even.

thanks for the hints !

Fill your porta potti or empty your fridge ;-)

PS: Where is your boat docked?

well, the more beer i remove from the fridge the more i have to fill up the porta potti... it should ballast the boat.

i,m on the "mittellandkanal" nearby hannover but know netherlands well since in the past i chartered boats from terherne and sailed the ijselmeer to amsterdam often. netherlands is a masterpiece in infrastructure on boating , nice harbours and waterways EVERYWHERE . maybe we can meet someday ! where do you boat ?

I have my boat in Zeeland (South-West part of The Netherlands) at my summerhouse (I live abroad).

Two weeks from now, will take my holiday and have 4 weeks and September another 2 weeks in NL.

I have the boat since 2 months, before had Quicksilver 640. I sold my sailingboat (will buy new one next year), so this year only burning fuel :)
Use the boat for sunset tours, towing my kids (inflatables, kneeboard, wakeboard, etc), fishing (sole and shark) and bottom/wreck sidescanning (Oosterschelde & Northsea).

We plan this summer to cross the north sea to the UK (Lowestoft) and discover The Broads http://www.enjoythebroads.com/

If your plan to be in the neighborhood, just drop a line

nice ! i have the holidays in the same time , but will be on the baltic sea. going to uk from netherlands over the north sea in a 240... sounds like balls of steel !
