Hi, This will be my first of hopefully many posts to this thread that I will use a sort of a log for the outings I take on my 2007 240DA. First I might as well start at the beginning. A little over a month ago I had a decision to make between two boats that I was looking at to upgrade from a 2002 Chaparral 234 Sunesta. I initially looked at a 2004 Chaparral Signature 240 and liked the way it looked and was a very nice boat. it did not have a generator on it but did have an extended swim platform already on it. Ya see, a few things I was looking for in the boat I wanted to upgrade to was the ability to camp out over night with creature comforts such as A/C, sleeping quarters, fridge and ample room for my son (7yo) to jump and play off of the boat. So the Chaparral had many of those qualities except the generator which I found out after reading up on the typical 24ft cabin cruiser that they typically do not have generators. I can live without that I guess but I will need another way to power the A/C over night. Later on that note. We also went to look the Sea Ray 2007 240DA and instantly fell in love with it. It had everything I was looking for in an updated package except it did not have a generator or an extended swim platform. It did however have something else that intrigued me. It has a custom built battery platform big enough to hold 2 8D size batteries mounted just in front of the engine against the wall. The salesman didn't know very much about the boat at the time because it was just traded in for a pontoon boat. He told me it was a 2004 and that it would probably be priced somewhere between 26999 to 28999. I told him I wanted to put a down payment on the boat and let him get back to me once they go over everything and fix what needed to be replaced before they sold it. the next day after chatting with him he told me that they had made a mistake on year and that it was really a 2007 and he would have to be firm on 28,999.00 price. that also had to replace a trim tab, fix a hose and a few other small things. He also said they were going to replace the 2 8D batteries because they were dead and ended up putting 2 Interstate 4D batteries in it's place. I was satisfied with the work done and 3 weeks later, we were signing the buyers order and found out that he actually priced the boat at 28,950. Did I mention that it came with a trailer as well? it sure did but it is being replaced as it is a painted steel trailer and I need an aluminum one for the salt water. So I took the boat home on a friday and we went out for the first time that Saturday. it was just me and the wife and I tried to familiarize myself with all of the gadgets on the boat which there are many. I wanted to see how everything worked. So far, everything has worked beautifully. Starting with the cabin, the cushions and bed pad are in great shape, I found no water leakage from the freshwater holding tank and all lighting works as designed. I added my own LED lighting for an awesome look on the inside. kind of adds a cruise ship look if you ask me. What do you think?

I also used the microwave, the fridge and the stereo. The galley and bathroom sinks work now but initially, the galley sink seal was broken so the cold water would not stop. I replaced the faucet and solved the problem. The shower head in the head was also clogged and after cleaning the screen, it works as intended. So far I have found out that the DC part of the panel in the cabin is ran off of the 2 cranking batteries and the AC part of the panel is connected to a 3 way switch that is either off, 1= shore power and 3= inverter/ house battery bank. It took me a bit to figure out how to set the switch for charging, running off of shore power and running off of battery power.

Through trial and error, I figured it out. In order to put the A/C through it's paces, I connected a generator to shore power and ran the A/C all day. It also ran without any problems and I also kept an eye on the pump under the stairs for any leaks and it stayed dry and was actuated by both the A/C drainage and shower drainage. While checking out the AC unit and checking the filter, I found the Xantrex 1800 watt inverter which is hard wired into the electrical system and is connected to the house bank of batteries. There is actually quite a bit of room in the back bunk area. Moving up to the cockpit, all gauges are working properly as well as all helm switches. The stereo remote panel is not quite up to par as some of the buttons do not respond when pressed right away. maybe I can find a replacement remote one day. Seating is a bit different as I do miss a lounge chair on the back of the boat but I think the layout is growing on me. It is hard to find a place for the coolers though. in the engine compartment I have found the 2 sets of battery banks, waste water tank, ac pomp and strainer, electric toilet intake, trim pump, trim tabs pump, Mercruiser 5.0 with bravo 3 outdrive, the hot water tank which works off of engine heavy or electric heat, the water pump, two battery chargers and a few other miscellaneous doo dads. If I missed something, maybe someone could point out what they see from the pics. (Will link to my photo bucket account where I will post all my boating pics for viewing.)http://s66.photobucket.com/user/emckissack/library/2007 Searay 240?sort=3&page=1
So far the upgrades I wish to do are to add a swim platform, add a rear bimini to extend coverage to the back seats and to work out how to put some sort of anchor holder up front to make it easier on the wife to drop anchor while trying to moor in the bay.
This weekend we plan to watch the Blue Angels air show over the Pensacola Beach Pier from the gulf. I will post pics of the event in this thread as well. So I guess this is as much as I can tell you at this point as I have brought you up to date and will continue to do so with every trip. hope you enjoy there ride.

Here are some pics from the show yesterday..

All in all it was a wonderful day. No issues what so ever. Boat rand well, Oh yea.. one thing that did happen was the lower Bennett trim bracket apparently stripped out and was able to allow the trim tab to move freely. I have ordered a replacement bracket to install already. I wonder what could have pulled the trim plate away from the piston with enough force to strip both screws out? Also.. The door to the cabin was beginning to get tough to slide open and shut. I dabbed a bit of drive oil onto a napkin and wiped it on the upper channel and it began to slide like butter. I would advise anyone with a tough to slide door to try to oil the upper track. Until next time, Enjoy. Nice! Hey for your trim tabs, there is a participant on this site Tabman that works for Bennett and is always very helpful when it comes to issues / questions regarding Bennett Trim tabs.

Excellent airshow pics! Looks like they were close enough to make some waves. :smt001

Wasn't able to go out this weekend. I fixed the trim tab bracket and dropped the boat off at the Eddie English boat trailer to have a new aluminum trailer built. The boat came with a painted steel one that is rusting out.

Went out on the boat Yesterday even though the weather reported 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms. It has been raining for the past week and a half here so I was determined to get out on the water this weekend. I received my new trailer last weekend and had to have some additional customs work done because the through hull fitting for the toilet was resting on the bunk and I wanted access to it and the A/C fitting for flushing purposes. Eddie made a notch in the bunk so the fittings would not rest on the bunk and I have access to them.
I was a bit alarmed when I pulled up to the boat launch and there was no other vehicles there. I had the place to myself. As we were pulling out of the bayou where I launch from, the water in the bay was a bit choppy but the nice V hull cut through it with much ease. I did notice that the idle @ approx 1k seemed a bit rough at times and very smooth at times. Do you think it could just be some water in the fuel / Water separator? (If I even have in on the 5.0 with Bravo III outdrive) or do you think it may be needing some new spark plugs? So we made it to our favorite spot to hang out, the sun was trying to peek out from behind the cloud cover. Again, we were almost the only ones out there aside from a group of folks who were down from Slidell Louisiana where it was getting flooded with rain all week as well. not long after anchoring, the sun broke free of the clouds and we received a bit of a surprise from the Navel Air Station behind us.

The Blue angels must have been grounded all week because of the rain and decided to do a bit of practicing while we were out there. A couple of times it did rain on us but it was kind of welcomed as it was some relief from the warm weather. One thing I have missed greatly on this boat is a rear trim switch on the back of the boat. I usually have to jump off the back of the boat to set the rear anchor on the island and it is a must have option when you are very close to shore. So I decided to mount one on Friday evening and it performed flawlessly. I am glad to have that option back.

Also after getting back into port and trailering the boat back home, I noticed that some water from the shower was getting the toilet paper wet. I decided to add some weather stripping around the inside frame of the door in the head. The door is a tight fit but I made some adjustments on the latch and now it is not so tight but I think it will keep any water from dripping down on the TP. :)

So that was my day on the water and the family had a real great time. My next project will be to add a rear bimini top to extend the front one to cover the back of the boat. Thank you for reading and happy boating.

Went out this weekend and ended up staying out overnight. We even brought the dog with us. He stayed out side on the upper deck and did very well considering he usually does not come out with us. The only problem I had with the boat was the shower sump over flowed and soaked the carpet. once I opened the reservoir and moved the float, it seemed to work correctly from that point on. I know there was mention of upgrading to the 260's unit but where would I look to get the whole outfit with pump and reservoir? We just can't get enough of this great boat.

We had the exact same problem with our 240. I replaced it with the unit that was used in the 260 and haven't had a problem since.

They had the whole OEM shower sump system in stock at West Marine, I don't remember the actual part number but I believe it was one of these Rule sumps.

So I am working on installing a rear Bimini top. I ordered one of the inexpensive ones off of eBay and modified it to fit the rear portion of my boat. I ordered the ball socket fittings for the frame attachment that match the OEM ones installs so it looks fairly stock. I had to cut and taylor the front of the Bimini canvas to match the contour of the front Bimini. I thought about using a zipper but decided to go with buttons instead. It seems to work for what I need it to. It definitely is much welcomed shade on the rear portion of the deck. I am in the process of naming her and I think we have it nailed down. My son Reece likes to use the term "Epic" when describing things he likes to do so we named the boat EPIC DAYZ and are using big smiley face decals to accent the new name. We love how it turned out. We were on the water from Fri night to Sun morning and nothing to report other than an EPIC DAY on the water.

So I have decided to do some work on her before going in the water this weekend. I purchased the fuel/water separator filters for the Gen III cool fuel system and will replace the filters on Friday. I also purchased a green pair of underwater LED's from a local manufacturer that does not have much about them on the webs but thought I'd give em a try. They are more affordable than the Seablaze and Ocean LED brand @ $255.00 for a total of 10,000.00 lumens (Claimed). http://www.thebestfishinglights.com. I want to mount them to the rear transom so it will light up the water from the rear of the boat to the beach. I also want to wire a set of green LED's that will go up into the engine vent louver on each side of the boat. Should have a neat looking effect in the dark once they are on. I want to wire it onto the existing "Accy" unused switch on the helm. Question is, where do I tap onto the switch? should I run the positive wire to the back of the switch or to the fuse panel? So that should keep me busy for a bit.

Hey! I'm having fun reading your posts, as we have a 240 also and love it. We don't spend many nights on board, but are out every weekend. Are you running your ac on the inverter? Great job with the LED's in the cabin and good idea for them in the ventilation covers. I would wire power from the fuse panel to the accy switch and out of the switch to the lights.

Thanks Dez. I figure that is how I will wire it but the boat is not stored at home so I will have to look at the switch when I get her home tomorrow. I do run the A/c off the inverter which powers or for approx 5 hrs at approx 75 degrees. I also run the Honda generator on the back to get us through the whole night. When the genny dies, I switch over to the inverter. Usually about 3:30 at night.

Was out on the water this past couple weekends staying 1-2 nights each. The boat treated us well. The only problem we ran into was one that I should have remedied already. The shower sump pump stuck closed again and flooded the lower step into the cabin. I now have a new one on order as a replacement so that should not happen again. a few other upgrades and fixes competed over the past few weeks include: Replacing the starting bank of batteries that were dated 9-2010 with a new deep cycle set of CarQuest brand from Advance Auto which have 210 mAh each. Should give some more time with the stereo and fridge working. I also replaced my non functioning horn with the OEM replacement. I added the LED lights that I mentioned before and am happy with the light output but I think they run a bit hot. The manufacturer is sending me a new set as replacements but it probably will not be fun removing the current ones and replacing them. I wired them to the Accy switch which works them independently of the other lights. I built a removable LED flood light that uses the existing anchor light receptacle to supply the power to the light. I used a replacement pole light, removed the top light fixture and wired the LED flood light to the existing wires that went to the light I removed and mounted it to the top of the pole. Now when I need light off the rear of the boat that lights up the area, all I have to do is stick the new light pole in the receptacle and I have light. Once done, just place the anchor light back in and run it all night. It works very well and kept me from having to wire the flood light in permanently somewhere. Below are some pics from the past couple weekends.

We saw a pair of eagles on the island we camp on that I have never seen before. They were both eating on a fish that one of them flew in with. One is in the air and the other is standing below him on the ground

Do you have any battery operated Carbon Monoxide detectors? A must have if you're going to run the Honda genny on the swim platform.

Didn't make it on the water this weekend but was able to make a couple fixes though. I was able to instal the new RULE shower pump. I hope it solves the problem with the OE pump and actually work off the float switch as intended.

I also ordered new spark plugs and cap and rotor for a tune-up. I have no idea when these items were last changed and wanted to get a look at what the plugs looked like. I opted for the NGK Laser Platinum PTR4G-15. Looking at the plugs pulled out, it seems everything is functioning normally within the combustion chamber. I wish I could tell how old these plugs were that I pulled out. They did have slight rust around the outside. All plugs looked similar to the one in the pic. Do you think they needed changing?

Got the rotor and cap changed. This is what they looked like. Would this cause any running or gas usage problems that I may not have been aware of? I did notice it was a bit sluggish sometimes when we were loaded down.

http://clubsearay.com/showthread.ph...n-a-leak-and-found-hull-and-deck-separationSo So I haven't posted in this thread for a while but I have been out several times since. Most trips have been mostly uneventful as far as problems go, Just been enjoying the fun in the sun. I did have an issue with water intrusion that can be found at the link above. I am hoping to get out to the water this weekend to check out he repair. I hope to have more pics as well but the last time we went out I dropped the phone in the water and didn't have any pics saved anywhere else.
