My 4th weekend sucked.

When I had my grounding incident in 2016 with the 44, we were down 2 months June thru august and that was not with pandemic excuses or boat bubble issues. The main thing we were waiting for was the props as we were getting replacements instead of repairs so hopefully since yours will be repaired, you can get it done faster.

Leaving a nice weekend American Warf in Ct I hit a rock leaving the gas dock on my way home! There was a buoy that was labeled rock. I was at least 100 to 150 feet from it when I heard a bang then a vibration. WTF is the deal.. Why wouldn't someone make sure that buoy is correct! This sucks. I was only going like 5mph so it could have been worse I guess. After that a bad vibration I limped back to another marina where they pulled the boat. Looks like port prop pretty bad, Star is also out of wack. Port side strut looks bent. Port shaft is hard to turn. I have insurance coming to look at it hopefully today. All people I'm dealing with have been nice and trying to calm me down. Hope you guys weekend was better then mine.

Chin Up, your in good company. In aviation we have a saying about wheels up landings: 'there are those that have and those that will'. As careful as we all feel we are being, if we use our boats enough as intended to explore our nation's treasured waterways prop strikes are just inevitable. We hope we learn somethings along the way and don't have repetitive events. We have a member of our past yacht club though that doesn't seem to learn and has had prop damage on his boat at least seven times in the past ten years! Just don't be THAT GUY!

So tell me if this is right? Here is the rock I hit. As you can see on the map the Buoy is placed off the rock??? You cant see any of it at low or high tide.

My question would be is it identified on your charts and is it reasonably avoided if it were not marked at all?
My rock had been marked in the past but markers were swept away during the wet previous winter. It is marked on the charts but I hit it while preoccupied with a fishing boat blocking a narrowed channel at low tide. I rounded up two markers around the marina, cleaned them up and applied reflective tape and marked both ends of the obstruction on my own. The markers took four years to drift away and I just heard a fellow yacht club member hit it last month.
Point is, we can’t rely on obstructions being marked or at least accurately marked. No substitute for local knowledge and updated charts. Even then there is no guarantee we won’t hit something some day.

We had a company plane (King Air) and shared a hanger with another plane that we got to know the owner. He took off one day with his seatbelt out the door flapping... he turned around to land and did so on his belly....he got so flustered with himself over the simple mistake that he forgot to put the landing gear down

It dont have an alarm like “hey big dummy, you below 50’ & landing gear is still up”?

Quick simple question, Can you share your insurance company name? Seems like they were very responsive and accommodating. Don't mean to sidetrack this thread, but the information might help many. I am currently looking. Thanks and good luck.

Yikes… I would have never guessed that….they are notorious for being expensive. Maybe buffet isn’t paying attention to the boat division…their car home and apartment insurance is really high
