Well, the first thing you have to do is ADMIT it, then you can fix the problem.

Lesson learned: "Always follow the markers and not your GPS cookies."

It was high tide when I went through on the way TO Hilton head....But it was sort of "lower" on the way back.

Was havin a good old time, up on plane, feeling the joy of the water and the boat and then.......

PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PICTURES.

We enjoyed a 2 hour break as we waited for the tide. NO DAMAGE thank goodness. I wasn't even buzzed!!!!

ummmmm and you shouldn't have been to begin with! Glad you got off the bottom fine and hope you can always make it back to your slip BEFORE YOU ARE BUZZED!

keep an eye on your temp gauges.. Even though you got off and home fine, you might have brought a bunch of sand up and in, and damaged the impellers.

Nobody hurt either? Glad to see a happy ending!

How fast do you think you were going, and how fast do you think you stopped?

It's great to see that these Sea Ray's are built so well !!

The buzzed thing was a joke. I was making fun of myself as you would think someone was drunk that they were not paying attention to the markers and then beach your prized possession. I hear you!! I am not a drinking/driving captain. Someone has to stay sober to laugh at the drunks!!

Good call there. Actually I was worried about it, but by the time we got home and all was well and then it was time for the 150 hour maintenance and she looked o.k. to the techs....Pheww..so just an oil change and a gear oil change there.

And note the comments from the 'hit a log' thread here. Make sure you haven't damaged the props.

First thing I checked when I put the outdrive up. It was a pluff mud kind of squish through the sand stop. As soon as I felt it, I was in nuetral and did not fight the stop with trying to throttle out. Prop came out o.k and the 150 hour service was o.k. with prop as well

I was doing about 25 on the speedo. I felt the drag kick in and went to throttle to nuetral and we kind of "slimey slid" to a stop, so it didn't feel like we were getting thrown fwd. All in all it was more embarrassing then anything. :smt013

Glad to hear that there was no damage. You guys must be consistantly boating in shallow water, and comfy with zipping through the shallow area on plane. As for myself, as soon as I read less than 10 feet under my boat, I am down to idle speed.

Well, the ICW in that area usually runs 12 - 15 at low tide. I was sitting in the 20's before I left the channel. Again, the dumb mistake was counting on electronics too much and not watching the water enough. I agree with your depth rules for sure!!

I have learned from other peoples mistakes. Just wanted to share mine.

How did your mechanic inspect the impeller without talking the water pump apart?

I assume your mechanic would not reinstall a used water pump impeller, right? After all, most of the expense is labor; the actual impeller is not that bad so if you open the water pump you may as well change the impeller.

It's hard to tell, but from the photos, it looks like you were coming into Port Royal Sound from HHI. The channel's narrow there. That big wide sound looks so deep, but there are 1' and 3' areas right at the corner. I've almost gotten my wings clipped there a few times. Wherever it was, I'm glad it all worked out ok.

Look on the bright side. Now you don't have to hire a diver to scrub the bottom.

What is the old saying, "if you haven't been aground, you haven't been around!" Glad everything turned out alright.

Been there... done that! You are right, it is embarrassing :smt001

I am glad everyone was OK and you didn't do any damage. I came to a very similar stop on a muddy/sandy bottom. No damage (hose popped off the trim cylinder) and no one got thrown/hurt.

Oh I'd have just told everyone I was stopping to careen and scrub the botton to "Paye the Devil"

Does your depth finder have a depth alarm? Did you get a depth warning before you came to a halt?

Well..dam..I am not sure..but I am going to check. I use the depth finder on the SmartCraft display and now I am just ultra paranoid, stll having fun, but much more paranoid and aware.
