NEED INPUT: ICE MAKER OR 2nd FRIDGE? What is better?

I ran out of bottled water this summer….. okay vodka straight probably isn’t the best plan…… so I did tank water all night…..with tank ice….. VW’s….. vodka waters….. I survived.

No doubt, the wife won't drink tank water if I paid her. Even through I had new water tanks made when we first got the boat and the water smells fine, she drinks it with drinks though. She's ok with the ice being filtered.

I'd say it depends on how the boat is used. We do several trips to the Bahamas every summer for about ten days per trip; the ice maker and watermaker are non-negotiable. We have an Isotherm Clear Ice Maker. Like @b_arrington said it uses a lot of water for operation so it is necessary to recirculate the water to the tank. I agree it is a bit on the noisy side from the fans and water pump; Isotherm should do something about that. Once the bin is full the run times aren't that extensive however that depends upon the cocktails, margaritas, and frozen daiquiris being consumed. But the ice is second to none for drink quality. It can make up to 40 pounds of ice per day. It is necessary to clean and chlorinate the ice maker with the water system and I do it twice a year. There are no issues drinking the water from the system
