From what I have been able to determine, it's necessary to remove the wing nuts under the top padded frame from underneath and lift it up in order to pull the instrument panel forward and work on the gauge wiring. Unlike later models, there is no usable access panel behind the instrument areas. One small cupboard in the salon has a rear access panel but it's too small and too far from the actual wiring to be of any use.
I have searched here and everywhere else I can find looking for some advice on how to dismantle the upper section of the dash with no luck. Both of my temp gauges are stuck at the max position (probably due to a wiring short somewhere) and I need to get to the back side to disconnect the wires for testing and possible replacement of the gauges. I can see the wing nuts by sticking my phone through the cupboard access panel and panning around. But it seems humanly impossible to wedge myself up into the dash under the wheel to try to reach those wing nuts. Did they use trained monkeys at Merritt Island to perform this task? Anyway, would appreciate advice from anyone who has attempted this. Thanks.
