Need to buy GPS unit

I just purchased a 2005 320DA boating on Lake Champlain and it does not have a GPS/fishfinder etc.... Any suggestions on make, model,ease of installation, can I install myself. Was looking at the Raymarine C-80 with Raystar-125 and DSM-30. Also a B744 depth transducer. At this point not interested in radar or weather.

Any help?

Look at the Garmin touchscreen units before deciding. Word is that Raymarine will become part of another company - perhaps Garmin.

With the Ray's you can "add-on" things down the road. I think you can do the same with the Garmin's. Personally, I like Garmin. But what you really need to do is go "touch and feel" them. Ray is already part of another company - so that really shouldn't be too big of a deal is they get sold to another company. But, what's mentioned above is correct as the possibility of Garmin acquiring Ray is the most recent development - but nothing is approaching finalization, yet.
