So I built a deck on our house about 20 years ago and decided to replace it. No changes other than using 6x6 instead of 4x4 and using a doubled 2x10 beam instead of a single 2x8. Overkill for what I'm doing.
Initially I planned on only replacing the deck boards but once I tore them off I decided to replace everything. We live in a small town where everyone is pretty laid back. We have a newer neighbor that moved in about 5 years ago across the alley from us. So I have the whole deck sub-structure done then yesterday a guy shows up and issues a stop work order. Neighbor 2 houses away just re-did his whole sidewalk in front of his house and around the side and new concrete steps. Talked to him last night and he said he didn't get a building permit. This neighbor out back has said hi in those 5 years but never really talked much until I started on this deck. Now she has been coming over every couple of days asking what I'm working on and even made her way to our porch to sit and hang out. Talked to our other neighbor and he has a tractor trailer he brings home (just the tractor) and he said she had asked his wife about it a few times so seems like this lady is trying to stir trouble in our neighborhood. She also walked into his garage and started questioning him about the shelving he was building. Don't people have better things to do with their lives? So spent $200 today on a permit and fees for the inspector to come out but the worst part is now I can't work on it for at least 2 weeks probably. Mu posts are only held in with 1.5" deck screws temporarily. I had bought 8" bolts yesterday to bolt them in but then the guy showed up. I went head and put the bolts in anyway but geez.

Sorry for the rant but people like this need to mind their own business. She has been borrowing stuff from us lately but not any more. I don't have proof that it was her but it was either that or someone from the boro drove by and saw it but based on her curious behavior recently I'd say it's a pretty good chance it was her.
She is a bleeding heart leftist (and that doesn't bother me, I could still be friends with her) and when she was on our porch she started talking about how we need to give more money to low income families and I said 'or they can get a better job'. She probably didn't like that so she probably turned me in because of it.

Yikes!! People do need to mind their own business, but usually, the lefties can’t:/

Be careful. We thought the same thing of "Judy" across the way. She is the same way, always in other people's business, asking what we are doing, watching your patio be constructed. etc. We thought she was prompting the HOA to enforce the "no comercial vehicle" rule on our roofer buddy "Dan." Dan had a new, shiny, Ford F150 "work" truck that they kept giving him trouble with -- nicer truck that half the crappy cars in our hood. Turned out it was another lady you never would have thought of -- typical back stabber who would smile at you while she put the knife in your back. Judy is just nosey and nice -- actually know a chit ton about plants and gardening. It was so bad, they turned me in for blowing snow in the street. Thank god the fkrs moved.

When Karen starts getting into your business and asking questions, Mr Jackson has the perfect response:

Just came out of the bilge to find this. That's why I live in the middle of 23 acres. Crazy people nowadays for sure.

Yeah but not sure who else it would be. Neighbor beside us has been doing projects for quite awhile and has never got a permit. He's also the one with the truck behind his garage that she complained about. On my other side is a young single girl that just had her dad build steps off of her back deck and they got no permit either so not her. The neighbors on the other side of the street can't see our deck from their house so doubt it was them and they have had their own issues too. Neighbor 2 houses down one way is the one that just did his sidewalk last week and 2 houses the other way hangs out in his yard with us drunk...lol. Really doubt it was anyone else.
The guy that showed up here also told my wife that 'Frank' called him and told him to come by our house. Well the nosy neighbor was on the easter egg hunt committee with Frank so while not 100% sure all signs are pointing to her.

We have a nosy one across the street. I put in a canvas swing post for the wife to sit in the evenings. The Mr asked if I had a permit. Put a post on the deck to hang pots on, where's the permit. They have rally'd the "hood" and got signatures for stuff dad has done over the years. Got him fined for something a tenant was doing one time($40k). He asked me one day about the permit for a gate opening to the goat pen. I told him it was in the barn hanging up and pointed to the door. He came out and said he couldn't find it, so I walked in with him following me. I reached up to the post just inside the door and came down with my middle finger up at him. Havent heard a peep out of him since.

Put up a small green house a few years ago and outgrew it. So this last winter I put a lean too up on the gable end with a 24' wide by 12' long green house. He asked me about it one day. His only comment was that the green house isn't green but wood colored.

Also, a friend has one of those lefty types that is always looking into her barn yard. Has called the animal control out many of times. I told her to put up cameras facing the lady's yard. She did and when the lady asked her about the new cameras, she told the lady they were to catch the people snooping in her yard. That she was going to get them on invasion of privacy charges. And that if they keep looking, taking photos of her place and calling in on her, she was going to put up a 20' fence on that one side. Hasn't had a call in on her in about a year now.

Just have a frank discussion with her and and mention that their is a nosey neighbor amongst us and see what her reaction is. Mention how fucked up that is to not be able to establish trusting relationships with that kind of person in the neighborhood. Then watch everything she does like a hawk! Report every little transgression she has. Those libtards like to point out everyone else’s spots but expects to get away with their shit.

I had a problem in my last neighborhood with one of the neighbors and it took a bit to figure out who it was but I made this sign and put it in my front yard and by the way I was the first corner house you see when you enter or exit the neighborhood. I was visited by many neighbors law enforcement and even the local tv & newspaper commenting on how they loved the sign and

how nice it would be if everyone thought this way.

I have an existing 'floating' deck in my yard that I'm going to tear down and being that it is literally about 30' from her garage door I'm sure she will ask what I'm doing. I'm gonna tell her we are putting up a 10' fence to keep nosy neighbors out (we aren't....lol).

She has a wooden cabinet in front of her garage that she has food in for anyone that 'needs' it. The one door has broken off and hasn't been replaced but not sure how good that food might be after sitting outside in 90* weather for months. Wife jokingly said she was going to call the health dept on her...lol

The powers that be usually want to inspect the footing depth before the concrete is poured. If they give u the permit to carry on, run with it. Then have some loud parties on the deck.....

Wait a hot minute...I thought people only had issues like this if they lived in a Home Owners Association? It's impossible to imagine that this stuff can happen out in the free world too!!!! :):)

no HOA here. just an old blue collar town where everyone knows everyone

I unfortunately have been spending quite a few days back in Western PA here lately and in driving around Sarver, Butler, Mars, Freeport, Cabot, Ford City, Natrona Heights....... some of the houses look like they are going to fall down with people still living in them. The inspectors need to get busy.

Yeah I'm not too far from Butler/Mars but our neighborhood is in a nicer part of town where everyone takes care of their property.
I should tell her if she is going to complain about me making improvements to my house then I'll stop and let it fall apart...lol. Obviously she would know I wouldn't do that but...

If you look at my sig pic the boat is in Bridgewater and the background behind the boat is Monaca, PA. Off to the left where that giant flag is is Rochester park. Right across from us is about where Michael Keaton jumped in the river in the movie Gung Ho
