New 8.1 496 elbow porblem?

So if some have you been watching I found a leak in one of my elbows. I ordered 4 new ones and got them yesterday. Here's my problem. The dry joint hose that runs from the manifold to the elbow. If you stick your finger in the new one the nipple that is welded to the elbow goes into the elbow and almost touched the inner exhaust tube. On the old elbow I could stick my finger in there and there is around a good 1/2" gap between the welded nipple and inner tube. I'm concerned about water flow. I know these raw water pumps, pump a lot. There is so much more restriction on the new ones I can't see how this will cool good. Its the same on ALL 4 that I bought. I'm even concerned about blowing off hoses, it's that bad. What is going on. It's hard to see, but the old has at least 1/2" and the new is like 1/8".??? Anyone ever look at this?

Are all 4 of them like that and are they OEM from Mercruiser? Your concern is valid as the slightest restriction in our cooling system causes heat issues. I would certainly check with Mercruiser if they are OEM and if they are not. Do not know that I would put them on unless I have some input from someone (you can trust) who has already done so and hasn't had any issues.

All for are from Merc/Quicksilver. Says it on the boxes. There aren't any aftermarket makers for these. How can Merc or whoever is doing these get it wrong? There would be A LOT of problems coming back. I'm hoping its a new spec... I can't find anywhere on the web that people mentioned this.

Are all 4 of them the same or is just one like that? That will be the first question I will be asked. Let me make a call to my Merc Factory guy and see if he has any input. I truly trust his opinion and hasn't done me wrong in over 20 years.
Also, are all the tubes the same length coming out of the side of the riser?

Yes they are all the same. Also all the same coming out the side. Sent you a PM

Maybe it’s to increase the pressure in the system?
