I just added a new AFI, 17" single trumpet Air horn and did away with the Sea Ray "Wimpy" horn.

Man....... is this thing loud.

"Can you hear me Now??"

It is the way "I" feel it shoulda been from the beginning.
And it is another one of those things that I just don't understand why Sea Ray did it that "wimpy" way and skimps on this at all. I mean - come on - how much more would it have cost to put a decent horn in there????
We alllllll complain about the original horn....
Can you hear me Sea Ray??

I wanted to mount it on top of the radar arch.
But, you are supposed to mount it angled downward to keep water out of the trumpet. OK, makes sense.
So, I mounted it on the starboard side of the arch, pointing a little downward and forward, so the end of the horn is below the side glass - so it doesn't hurt my ears.... when "I" blow it.

Much better install and sounds really good.

Any pictures? Did you wire it separate from the original horn?

No pictures yet, I'm busy and getting ready for vacation.

I wired to the original "Horn" switch on the helm.
I calls for a 20 amp fuse but the original horn fuse is only 10 amps.
I plan on replacing it if necessary.
Guess what? I blew it several times last night to test it and the 10 amp fuse didn't blow. So I guess it maybe uses less than that?
If it does blow, I will replace.

how/where did you run the wiring inside the arch? i'm getting ready to upgrade same on my 260, and don't want to butcher anything!

Here's what I did:

The wires ran down the arch, access panel next to helm seat, into helm dash area.

Does the horn operate off a mini air compressor, or is it all electric? You've had this a while now, any issues with the 10 amp circuit with 20 amp requirement?

Henry

air compressor mouted inside the arch.
No issues.
Mine works off my existing horn switch.

Oh.....
And they can hear me NOW!!

Lee,

Thanks for the tutorial. Now I have my project for Saturday (though i'll probably go electric, buddy of mine did, and says it sounds tremendous)

As of now, I'd rather plow into someone like a man than try to warn with my little door buzzer:grin:
