I know this topic has been beat to death but I still have questions.

My 320 is set up with 2 banks of batteries. Each bank has 2 batteries tied in parallel.

I am considering purchasing 2 dual purpose (starting/deep cycle) optima AGM for the bank that starts my port engine and runs the house power. For the bank that starts my generator and Starboard engine I was considering buying 2 optima AGM starting batteries.

Is it ok to have 2 different types of batteries in the system? One bank starting type and one bank dual purpose on the same battery charger?

Looking at the Blue top group 31 (900 cca and 1125 mca) for the house bank and Blue top group 27 starting (cca 800 and 1000 mca).

I have 2003 6.2 mercs.

i don't think it should be an issue, but why don't you just buy four group 31's? Is room a factor, or cost?

If it's cost, I would just bite the bullet and go w/ 31's.

Yea, cost was the factor. I would save about $100 and it looks the the group 27 starting batteries would have plenty of starting power. I always wondered why the starting bank had 2 batteries vs. 1

Check to see whether your charger has different settings for AGM's and lead cell batteries.
