7.4merc fwc inboards
I have 2 5.7 v8 fwc inboards. I opened the sea strainers and poured the pink stuff while engine was running until pick stuff came out of exhaust. I did not touch the engine block because it already has anti freeze. Are there any drain plugs I should remove or anything that even requires draining? Thanks for any help

I have 7.4 that are fwc. I'm no expert but I do my own winterizing and have not had any problems. Our engines are a little different but I usually close off the seacock and suck all the water out of the strainers. I then open them and blow air through the through hull until I hear it bubbling under the boat, and then close the seacock back off. Then I pull the drain plugs on the exhaust manifolds, raw water pump and fuel cooler. Then I fill the strainers with pink and use my SeaFlush kit to run the engines to pull pink through the exhaust until a good steady flow of pink is running out the side exhaust ports. (usually about 5-6 gallons) Close the strainers off and call it good.

Some will say to drain the exhaust mufflers, but I do not do that and have not had any problems. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Sam... I Didn't drain anything I just basicly ran the engines with anti freeze until my exhaust water turned pink. I didn't drain the manifold because my thinking is that it is full of anti freeze?? On the mufflers I am guessing there is pink anti freeze inside there aswell??

Yes, the mufflers should have filled with pink. However, depending on how long/much pink you ran through will be the determining factor. If it was just run until it turned pink (without draining anything) and then shut off, there is a chance that the water already in the exhaust side of your system could dilute your pink and lower your protection level. The longer you let it run after it turned pink the better.
