:smt024 Hey Guys,
Anybody out there install new carpet in their cabin? Was gonna go with Nuteak but the estimate came it at $2250-$3000. That's insane and out of my pocket book. Can you put the new carpet over the old or do you have to rip it up? What's it like to remove the old carpet? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, George:huh:

You will definitely need to tear out the old carpet first. I have replaced several pieces of my carpet and went with the OEM Sea Ray Carpet which I am sure is the same carpet you have. The carpet is not easy to get and based on the cost to do the cabin of a 340, you would probably be better off going with Nu-Teak.

Other marine carpets are out there but I have not yet seen one as "plush" as the original. I am sure it is out there somewhere though.

I just redid the entire interior of my boat for less than $350.00. The carpet does not need to be "Marine" carpet. Any interior carpet will do, I went to Menards and figured I was going to spend 1000 to get the carpet I wanted. I ended up finding 2 large rolls of remnant carpet in the exact color and texture I wanted and to top it off it was just a little more than I needed.

You will have to remove all of the carpet, then sand the area as smooth as you can get it. The new carpet will glue in just like the old was, I used industrial grade carpet glue ($7.00 for more than I would ever need). A friend of mine ended up doing his 460 DA with the same carpet as I did.

Pretty easy job:

I can't give any info on the carpet but I can help with the removal.
I am working on replacing my carpet with maple flooring and the tool that was a life saver
is shown below. This is the Fein oscillating multimaster tool with a linoleum remover that removed the carpet like a hot knife thru butter. I removed all the carpet on my 370 dancer in less than 6 hours and it removed about 75% of the glue! They have other manufactures at Home Depot that are much cheaper than Fein!

I am about to do my 89 340. If you own a searay it is a pain to get the old carpet out. This is not an easy job!! Then clean the old glue up cut and reglue the new down. I am going to take the seats out and do it right. Marine carpet about the same as I have plus glue is about 250.00
I will take pictures and post when I do it.

Is Nu Teak the only ption over there. There is another product here called vinylteak, comes out of Japan i believe, I think it is 1.8M wide and retails at $165 per metre, I am considering doing the back of the boat with it, tossing up between new carpet or the teak look.

I used a similar product to vinylteak called Lonseal. It is a marine vinyl which is much heavier duty then the Home depot version. I did my 330 for approx $700. Turned out GREAT.

Any pics? Does it have a non-skid texture to it? I noticed a few of the new boats at the boat show were using something like Lonseal or Vinylteak. It has a nice look and looks easy to maintain.

Sorry-No pics. Boat is put away for the winter. Its is a non skid surface. Almost impossible to damage. I got the teak and holly look. Huge improvement from carpet both functionally and appearance. One of the better changes I have done
