Hello everyone, name is Lenny soldier in the Ft Bragg NC area. Been looking at used boats for a few weeks now and I came across what I think is a great deal. Some specs are:
2001 Sea Ray 245 Weekender Cuddy Cabin
Use: Fresh water only 415 hrs
Trailer: Double axle aluminium trailer
Body type: Cuddy cabin
Engine type: Single inboard/outboard
Engine make: Mercury
Engine model: 5.7 V8
Exterior color: White
Fuel type: Gas
Fuel capacity (gallons): 51-75
Hull material: Fiberglass
Lenght: 26.3
Beam: 8.6

I will use this mostly for entertaining friends on the lake and some fishing as well. Would a boat like this be worthy enough to take out on open water say a mile or closer to the coast? NADA list the vale at around 14k -15K without including the aftermarket sounds installed. Boat looks flawless, owner says it has been perfectly maintained, but I have yet to see it. Owner is asking $8500 due to an upcoming deployment. What are your thoughts? View pics of boat at : http://picasaweb.google.com/116136538774051331331/SeaRay245#

From what I can see, that looks like a really really good deal. Take a look at it and take it out on the water and if everything works, jump on it as it will probably sell fast. Good Luck!

IMHO - Almost sounds too good to be true?? In these interesting times we are in you never know. The seller may just want/need the cash???

Stewy, first of all, thank you for your service to our country. I salute you.

That boat looks real clean. I'd go for it.

Looks to be a pretty nice boat....from the inside. There are no pictures of the outdrive or the exterior. Have a very close look.

Lenny,
Thank you for your service! No one has mentioned this but it's always a good idea to get a survey, no matter how good the boat looks and this one does look good. Also please be wary of scams as I agree his one looks almost too good to be true. I don't think you would have any problems going a mile or so out in the ocean as long as you have all the proper precautions taken, ie: VHF radio with hand held backup. Gps is nice too but not Necessary if your just hanging by the inlet. The weather can turn pretty quick though and it is real nice to have when visibility goes down. That being said if all is on the up & up, Enjoy your new boat !! Todd

I agree with a lot of what's been said.

- There are not a lot of detailed pictures. Get better pictures or a better hands-on look.
- Get a GOOD look at the outdrive. Odd there are no pics of that.
- Get a survey done. After just going through my first boat purchase last December, I would never buy a boat without having a survey done AND a sea trial (maybe a mechanical on something like this because it looks great for the price).

It almost looks to good to be true for $8500. I know what I have and I paid $17K for it 6 months ago.

Keep us updated please.

Hey Everybody - this is a scam. The Sea Ray 280 Weekender that is being offered for $8,500 by a person saying he is being deployed is a total scam. I own the boat and it is in East Dubuque, IL and I can prove it. Don't get caught up in this scam and lose your money.

Thought it looked to good to be true ... it usually is.

Looks like it says 245 in the stern picture, not 280. Would a 280 fit on a dual axle trailer?

Its one of those scams. Google "Amazing 2001 Sea Ray 245 Weekender Cuddy Cabin - $8500" and you will see the same boat is located all across the US on Craigslist.

I hope I can put this issue to rest.

A scammer is using my pictures and description offering the boat for $8,500. He will request a $4,000 deposit if you try to buy it - but you will never see your money again or the boat.

The obviously here is that all other SR245WE's offered for sale are in the mid to upper $20,000 - and this one for $8,500???? That should send up some flags.

This guy goes by the name of Tim Evans - not sure if that is an alias or not. My biggest thing here is that he is using the Military to further promote his scam. The United States Military is comprised of the finest young men in America - who are willing to give up their lives for their country. I am sure this dirt bag has absolutely nothing to do with the Military despite his claims!!!!!!

Here is a copy of an email I received from him when I anonymously contacted him:

Hi again,
As I told you, at this moment I am in WA in a military base, getting ready for Afghanistan (I hope for the last time). I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or make calls whenever I want. The shipping will take 3 to 5 days depending on your location and it’s not a problem because I have a considerable discount from eBay and I can do it at no cost for you. As long as I'm dealing with eBay and they can ship the boat anywhere in the US. I listed the boat in several states because it increases my chances to get it sold much faster. I want to mention that the boat it was inspected by eBay and fulfils the standards from all the 50 states so it wouldn't be a problem for you to register it in your state. You will receive the boat along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, 2 set of keys, full service records and more. Because it is a large transaction, we will complete the deal only using an authorized third part like eBay by sending and advance of 50% of the total amount and the rest after the shipping has been made and the boat gets transfered on your name. I already prearranged the whole process with them, using their escrow Safe Pay Program for products that are not listed on their website. The boat is located at their warehouse in WA (ready for delivery). I've asked them to allow viewers to go there and inspect it but their reply was: "We are not a showroom!" In this case, I will offer a 5-day period to inspect the boat from the moment you receive it, before I'll have your money. I think this is more than fair for both of us.
The payment will be handled by eBay Escrow, and you will benefit of 5 days inspection time period (test drive) and the option to accept or reject it on my expense. If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address. I will forward your info to eBay and they will notify you about our deal. Like this you'll be able to talk directly with them and ask all you want to know.
Regards!
Tim
