On the hook for a night this week and learned a new lesson. Very hot in SW Florida so had the generator on for the night. At about 3 in the morning the genny dies. Got up to investigate and found water had been sprayed in the forward engine area. Down the ladder to look and found a fresh water hose had failed and the water pumps had dumped approximately 50 gallons. The battery charger for the generator and mains had taken a direct hit. I can only guess the charger put out an erratic voltage that the generator did not like, and shut down. Later all systems returned to normal and I fixed the failed water line. The lesson: Turn off the water pumps when going to bed. The pumps are not loud enough to wake me up, especially with the generator running.
