Hi Guys. I bought a barely used '06 200 SEL last week. She only had 35 hours and is in excellent condition, so feels like a brand new boat to me. I found only two issues with her so far. Maybe some of you have some ideas on these.

This boat has the full engine cover pad. (no walk thru). The brackets on the bottom of the cover, that the gas struts attach to, are loose and wobbley. They seem to be bolted thru the pad base and the accessable nuts are tight. I'm afraid the surrounding base structure must be broken. Anybody else have this problem?

I have the premium factory stereo with separate amp and a subwoofer. The subwoofer is not working. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. What's the best way to test it? Could it be a fuse on the amp or something?

Great forum, Thanks for any help.

Welcome and congrats on the new boat. Sub should have a 30a or so fuse, close to the battery.....good place to start.

Welcome aboard!

Can you post a pic? How loose and wobbley are you talking about? But, if you can get to the nuts and they're tight, I'd guess that you could try adding a backer plate - maybe even sandwich the mounting area between two plates of aluminum or SS. Sort of to spread the mounting stress out over a larger area.

I can't entirely remember, but I thought the underside of the pad was a Starboard-type material and that the mounts where screwed in? If you can, a pic or more detailed description will help.

Thanks for the responses. I won't be able to get a pic of the brackets for a few days. The brackets have 4 studs coming thru them with nuts to secure it. The best I can tell is the studs must come thru the base board of the padded engine cover. The underside of the board is covered/finished with a black nylon mesh fabric. I'm afraid that to get to the other side of the studs you would have to remove the upholstery and padding of the cover. It seems to have been poorly supported for the amount of stress the struts must put on those brackets. That engine cover is huge.

Hi,

I also have an 06 200 select with the full width sunpad, the thing you mention about the brackets is normal, mine have been like it since I bought the boat brand new. They havnt got any looser over time. I did try and tighten them, but it didnt work.

Cant help with the stereo I'm afraid.

Heres a list of things which have gone wrong though (in 270 hours):-

-wiring to stereo failed , power cable pulled out of the plug - easily fixed
-Screws holding glove box floor into place sheared off - easily fixed
-nuts holding side panels worked lose, found lots on the floor - easily fixed
-hose clamps on cooling hoses corroded and failed causing multiple overheat - bit fiddly to fix, hard to get to all of them and theres about 28 of them , so fairly timeconsuming, but hopefully I have fixed this one for good now.
-Idle air control valve failed - easily fixed, but had to wait 4 weeks for the part.
-upper drive pinion gear broke three teeth off - very expensive to fix!!
-Thermostat stuck in the closed position, caused overheat - easily fixed
- bench seat cushion base cracked - probably my fault for stepping on it too hard - easily fixed
- various self tapping screws pulled out of fibreglass floor (snaps, and bench seat 'support')
- Floor locker started to bang when going over waves - easily fixed with a strip of foam padding
- Blower failed - easily fixed.

I think thats it, the only big issue was the pinion gear, and I still dont know why that failed, just one of those things I guess.

Thanks for the info Julians. This is my 3rd boat and I've never had a clamp corrode and fail. I'm a freshwater boater, are you in a salt enviroment? The other stuff isn't unusual with the pounding boats can take. The other day I took a phillipshead screwdriver around the entire boat and snugged up every fastener I could see. Pretty much every screw needed tightening. I'm going to check fuses for the subwoofer problem and if they're ok I'll have to use a meter to see if the amp is putting out, I guess. The engine cover bugs me. I think I'll try to find an easier fix than removing the upholstery on it. Probably some kind of plate on the underside with screws I can get to.

I took the boat out for the 1st time 3-days ago. It ran great and the Captains Call exhaust sounds great. It was windy and too rough to give it a top speed run and check if it's propped right on the top end. It popped right out of the hole though. Looking foward to getting her out again this weekend.

yep, I'm in salt water.

All my problem were no big deal, apart from the pinion gear, I still dont know why it failed , I can only put it down to a manufacturing defect, seeing as all the important maintenance was done on schedule, and it wasnt run low on oil.

Look on the top of the amp, there should be a bypass frequency switch for the sub. Mine was set to 1000 hz which is way above the subs response range. I set it to 20 hz which fixed the problem. Your mileage may vary.

Bingo! I was fiddling with the adjustments last night and the sub came to life. Glad it's not broken. Thanks.
