I am getting ready for the spring launch and am working on a minor electronics upgrade. As part of this, I will need a new thru-hull transducer. I currently have the two factory units mounted in front of the engines by the sump as others have described in different threads.

Can anybody advise as to whether a 20 degree tilt is recommended for this installation? Also, if memory serves, I seem to remember that the factory transducers are fitted through some type of brass "sleeves". Does this make sense? Does any special consideration need to be given to replacing the factory units?

Thanks and best regards-

I just finished replacing my RayData transducers (speed/temp and depth) on my 99' 450DA. Both units were originally installed with brass thru hull fittings. I replaced the depth transducer with a AirMar B60 w/ 20deg tilt. The deadrise on my boat is 19deg. That B60-20 is for a deadrise of 16-24deg. It's brass housing does not need a thru-hull fitting. You just need to bore out the original 58mm hole to a 60mm hole, then epoxy reseal the bore. The new combo speed/temp/depth (yes, I now have two depth transducers) came with a plastic thru-hull that was a direct swap replacement to the original thru-hull ( just clean and reseal its bore). Hope this helps. I'll try to post some pics here.
