Hey Skippers:
Just found this sight and I'm excited. Finally some commrads in misery and joy.
My name is Chad and I'm a product of the South Florida life style. I've been in boating since my teenage years and can't imagine having to live without being on the water. My personal log is over 20, 000 hours off the dock and better than 18,000 in open water (mostly on sail.)
This is my second SR and when I switched from Sail to power I went into a SR 96 build 37 Dancer with Mercruizer Horizions (YUK!), loved the boat hated the power plants.
My Admiral and I now own a SR 460 DA 2001 Build for 2002. She's got Cummin's 6CTA's and a Westerbeke 8.0 Genny. Pretty much a stock boat less all the gremlins the kids in the fun house at Palm Bay left for me to trace and repair.
We bought the boat from the original owner in Naples who'd had a lifestyle change that didn't include boating. The boat had 197 hours on it when we got her, most of that was in the first year of use and she hung on her ropes only tended to on a bi weekly basis by a so called captain for nearly a year.
We bought a challenge in that by years the boat was near new and frankly the cosmetics were as new, but where it counted down where the dragons growl and belch fire and flames, I had a swamp to deal with. We got the boat at a near steal price of about 100K below market. I got the price as a result of investing money on a first rate survey that ran nearly three days for two surveyors. We bought with our eyes wide open and got paid, in the price, many times over for the work we had to do, that the owner didn't want to undertake.
Our baby is now well found, with just a few minor quirks to remind us why we call boats by "she" and to keep life interesting.
We're members of Lauderdale Yacht Club and love the boating life style. Our cruising grounds include Tampa to West Palm, the Keys, Dry Tortuga and the Bahamas. So many cays and keys and so little time.
I look forward to giveing as good as I get here ... and I'm sur eit will be a hoot.
Perhaps I'll see ya out there!
